How quickly my pro can fix my swing. Just shows how I need to get my brain to remember what I want to do. Let too many bad habits come in.

Very annoying

The distance drop-off I get with my short irons on an off-centre strike.
On or around the middle - no problem....dropped an 8 iron to 4 feet from 140 yards yesterday....
A few holes later and the same club struggled to 115 on a poor but not disastrous strike.
Don't get me wrong, I know I'm going to get a drop-off but more than 10 yards or so is no good to anyone..especially from 140 yards.
9 and Wedge are the same...but the 7 and 6 only drop 10-12 on a poor shot.
I have Mizuno Pro 223s and, up to 7 iron, they have a slot in the head to help flexing the face and they're made from Chromoly
From 8-W they're pretty much blades......and similarly unforgiving on certain strikes....
Love the clubs but this inconsistency is doing my head in......

ive got the new JPXs apparently mizuno with these ones said the distance was maxed out with the model before so now they have gone for max forgiveness across the face which suits me just fine!!

lovely irons you have there btw, tried them on my fitting. felt lovely when I got it right.. not so lovely when i didnt

Isn't this always the trade-off though? You could get something more forgiving but you good players normally moan about getting flyers out of the middle. A tale as old as time...

My beef is the 25 yard drop-off in the 8-W but only 10-15 on the 6 and 7.
The short irons have a middle and nothing else
Interestingly, another magazine did some tests on irons in the same category and the drop-off average was about 8-12 yards....the 223s were 18.

Sounds like you just need to do a new iron fitting. Just make sure you turn up on a bad striking day. 😁

Sadly, which club do you normally have available to be fitted with.....
Yup..a 7 iron.....
Interesting, I didn't think of that. I wonder if somewhere would do it with a shorter club if you requested in advance. Sounds like you need an iron that's slightly more forgiving anyway though.

I think I do these days....
Fitting club used to be a 6 iron until lofts started to creep and it's now a 7
I'd like access to a 5, 7 and 9 because head construction can change dramatically and what suits in a 5 might not in a 9

I've only ever done it with 7, and I suppose the assumption is if you can hit the 7 nicely then the shorter ones are a given. But when people are getting blended sets they would have to try the longer ones and the shorter ones anyway. So it must be an option in some places.

I remember when I got "fitted" for My titliest 8 year ago with American golf I got fit using the standard 7 iron system however I asked to hit off the rack pitching wedge etc

The Mizuno guy I use in Tring only has 7 irons available so if you want to blend, say, 923 forged and HMP then you hit a 7 in both and the computer does the rest..

Would you consider the HMP? Ive just got them, nowhere near as good as you but the fitter said for me they would suit due to the ground interaction I get. Anyways reading the reviews they say they are great for single digit golfers like yourself looking for forgiveness

had a couple of my reg playing partners round for dinner yesterday. they told of their game last month. they started as a 3 ball behind a 4 ball of American visitors. waited on the first 3 holes, caught by a single and asked if he wanted to go though or join them. he joined them again waited for 3 holes and were caught by another single and let him through. over the next 3 holes the 4 ball didn't let him through. when they had caught the single up they decided to play as a 5 ball. . caught this time by a 2 ball, who they let though, who them waited for a few holes before just walking in. by this time they had got to 15 and were again caught by a single, who was told of the situation so joined them as a 6 ball :ROFLMAO: they still had to wait on every hole and the round was 6 hours. :ROFLMAO::LOL:

i certainly havn't been missing much while not being able to play

Personally probably not but the principle is the same
I'd be looking 243s and 245s or 923F
Hollow body, slots,, cast, proper forged, forged faces etc etc...all different

Wonder if you give it 6 months if the 925 will release the forged version, I mean the 923 did after a few months

Went up for a bit of practice followed by 9 holes. Looking on BRS, there were 4 2 balls back to back, then nothing for the rest of the afternoon, so I put my name down 24 minutes after the last pair thinking that would be enough of a gap so that I didn't get held up unduly.

Teed off on time, no sign of anyone. Gets to the 2nd tee, can see a pair on the 3rd tee. Gets to the 2nd green, they are still on the 3rd tee, can see a pair on the 3rd green, another on the 4th tee, another on the 4th green.

Gave up, played 17 and 18 instead, and went home. Only consolation was I played all 4 holes well (+1), so a bit of a confidence booster.

(Not being sexist, but the 4 2 balls were all women members. One of them is well known for having a rant at anyone who she thinks is playing too fast behind her, even though she never lets anyone play through. Lesson learned, if they have their names down in future, allow at least 45 minutes before playing!)
