Having said that though, in my mind I kind of expect those who work in golf shops to have an interest in golf on a personal level, so surprising that he didn't know what a mini driver was.

Depends on whether it's a "golf superstore" type shop like American Golf, where I don't expect staff to have a clue. Would you expect the staff in Mountain Warehouse to be mountaineers?

Been to a new golf shop in Mansfield today. Went in to have a look and see if they have any mini drivers. A guy politely asked
ā€œ if I need anything give me a shoutā€. I had a look at the clubs in store and couldnā€™t see anything so I went to look for the guy. He had just left. A Young lad ( 20 ish) asks if I want any help. ā€œ do you have any mini drivers in, I believe Taylor made have someā€. I said that as they have a Taylor made stand. We walked over and he gave me a 9 degree driver. ā€œ I said thatā€™s a driverā€. He responded by saying ā€œ yes but thatā€™s 9 degree so itā€™s smaller than a 10.5 degree driverā€. I was gobsmacked. I said ā€œ No the mini driver has a smaller headā€. ā€œ Ahā€ he replies and promptly hands me a 3 wood. ā€œ There you goā€ he proudly said. For the first time in a long time I was speechless. I eventually said ā€œ a mini driver is between a driver and fairway woodsā€. He didnā€™t have a clue.
Suffice to say I was somewhat gobsmacked you would have someone trying to sell something they have no knowledge about whatsoever.

Went out with my pals last week and in this bar they had a wide selection of German beers , craft beers ect . ā€œHavenā€™t they got Carling ā€œ my mate said šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Nothing beats a long since absent member of this forum, ordering a Baileys in a pub near Dundee, with hundreds of single Malts on offer. šŸ¤•

Played today with three fellow members. One of them plays a ball into an area that was until recently GUR. He asked me ( I sit on our Competition and Handicap Committte) if itā€™s still GUR. I reply no, it was removed a few weeks ago and point out that the white lines have gone.
ā€œGoodā€ he says, ā€œI donā€™t want to penalised for playing out of itā€.
I reply ā€œYou wouldnā€™t be penalised because it is your choice to play or take a drop out of GURā€.
ā€œNo you canā€™tā€ he says.
I said ā€œYouā€™ve been allowed to do so since 2019ā€.
He checks the back of the card for the local rule that states the prohibition of playing from GUR ( itā€™s not there. - I wrote the card) .
He, and one other of the group, had been taking a compulsory drop from our GUR for the past 5 years.

It irritates me that they just donā€™t bother reading what is made available to them.

Down to my last box of Titleist Tour Speeds which is my preferred ball for the winter. Just learned that they have been discontinued since earlier this yearšŸ˜¢. A shame as I really liked them.

I only use them during the winter as I generally use pro v1s when the ground is firm and bouncy. Looks like Iā€™ll be changing to the tour response for my winter ball.

Not playing today.

What? That's a shame, they were a great second tier ball.

What is the equivalent replacement?
Not sure, but Iā€™ll probably give the Taylormade Tour Response a go. Tried them a couple of times but only with those I have found. They also have a urethane cover.
