Just wondering, do we have any journalists or golf writers on here that would possibly be inerested in giving our golf society day some coverage?

I know, golf societies are ten a penny, but this one has just one annual event - "The English Open", so called as it was initiated as an event for the members of the English family, and a few close friends. The first event took place in 1970, at Woodsome Hall Golf Club, with just (I think - cos I wasn't born), just seven entrants. It has run every year since, and next year will mark the 50th anniversary of the original society day.

I'm pretty sure I can get the local paper to give it some coverage, but would this sort of story have the legs for maybe a slot in a national magazine? Sadly, most of the original motley crew that played that day are no longer around, although my dad will hopefullly be joining us to maybe hit a tee shot off the first, along with myself and my 10 year old lad - three generations of golfers from the family.

Maybe it's of little interest, but as my dear old mum used to say, if you don't ask, you don't get.

Sounds a lovely event. Why not email Mike Harris (Golf Monthly editor at michael.harris@timeinc.com) and see what he can do
