im 16 and shooting around +22 every round, but this is a unofficial handicap, so what will happen at first, what will i play off for my first comp? 22? And is there a minimum age of 18 or anything in medals?
And as I've never done anything like this how are the cards marked, obviously i won't mark my own so will one person mark all the cards, or everyone swaps or what? cheers.

I think you'll need to get three handicap cards in and obtain an official handicap first. If you are then talking about playing the main club medal with adult members, each club has their own rules. Some base it on age, others on handicap (18 limit etc).

Even if its a junior event, the format is the same. You swap with one of the other players who will then swap with the other member. Mark his score in column A and put yours in the markers column on the left so you can cross reference with your official card if there is a discrepancy.

You might need to do some housekeeping on the card and mark which tees you are using, put your handicap in the box next to your name and mark the tee time you started at. Once the round is finished, count the score for the player you marked and tell him. If he agrees, put it on the bottom of the card and deduct the handicap to give the net score and sign it in the markers box.

The guy doing your card will do the same. Once you are happy it matches what you shot you sign it in the players section. If you don't sign your own card you'll be disqualified.

During the round if you are unsure ask before you play a shot or touch the ball. If in doubt, play the original as it lies and then play another under any drop or rule decision and put both scores on the card. Don't sign it but refer it to the competition organiser for a ruling. Above all don't get too hung up about it and go out and have fun

okay, thanks for the advice, I will make sure to hand some cards in ASAP.

Don't worry about it all too much, everyone I know would be perfectly happy to 'show you the ropes', if in doubt just ask :)

The medals at ours are all mens and juniors, though it will differ from club to club.

But as Homer say's you will definitely need an official handicap to enter - nothing to stop you using the medal as one of the 3 cards you will need to submit to obtain your official handicap though.

someone has to mark your cards for your handicap too! you cant just hand in cards you have done yourself. it needs to be someone with an official handicap. you can usually play in the medal but do a handicap card
best of luck!

Thanks for the responses, yeah I knew that but I guess it will have to be a member? as i normally play with my dad or my mate and they just play as guests? If so il ask the pro soon if he knows anyone that can mark some cards, as im getting lessons from him in the near future.

Yeah you will have to become a member of a club to get an official congu handicap in the mean time try some online stat apps golfshot scoresaver and they will work out from your scores a tracker handicap

Sorry if I didn't come across clear, I am a member there and play often now, but was wondering if it has to be a member of the same club as me to sign the card.

In the mean time a new junior event for those without handicap yet has just been launched google juniorgolfingdays.
But try get your handicap sorted for junior opens in summer hold great way to play other courses cheaply. Enjoy.
