I am sure I have come across a similar post but I do not have the internet access time to trawl for this at the moment so would appreciate any advice.
We are off on our annual jolly to Spain, group of 12 (three groups of 4), handicaps vary from 6 to 28. Looking for a few different formats to play (texas scramble, stableford, strokepplay, greensomes etc), any thoughts are welcome.
Thanks.

If I'm going away and playing new courses I'd want to be playing my own ball for every shot. That would rule out any scrambles 4somes/ greensomes etc for me.

Depends on spread of playing ability but either medal or stableford for me. Medal if you are all single figures, stableford if the h'caps are a bit more spread.

H'cap adjustments after every day to keep everyone on their toes.

I've never been a great lover of adjusting handicaps every day. OK if some bandit is blitzing it, cut the bugger. But I tend to go away with the same group of mates each time and we all know each others handicaps are kosher.
One of my mates suggested cutting the winner of the daily stableford three shots each day, second place two and third place one. That's a bit much if the winner on the day only comes in with about 30 points 'cos everybody else played crap. It's not his fault that the others couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo!

I agree with Smiffy up to a point. If a guy is having a crazy few days it can take a bit of the edge of it for the others. However I don't think a daily review is necessary and personally I'd only cut the winner by 1 shot per day.

Lighten up you 2!! I thought it was a holiday not the Ryder Cup!! :o :D

The top 3 go down 3, 2 & 1 respectively and the bottom 3 go up by the same margin. All sorts itself out over the trip and fuels the banter along the way.

Last time we went our old 'A' Team captain started the week playing off of 3 and, because of his inability to hold his drink, finished the week scoring 29 points off of an 11 h'cap. He could barely show his face at the club on our return!! :D :D

Our "50 Not Out Tour" is as a group of eight - playing three rounds over three days. Everyone gets adjusted daily - 1 shot up for every two points under 36, and 1 shot cut for every two above. Has always set things up for a close finish on the final day as no-one gets to run away with things. After all, it is a friendly tour...

Our trips are very lighthearted Robo, but as I say I just don't agree with handicap adjustments if all the guys are known to each other, and that goes either way.
When we went to Cornwall in the Summer I played absolutely crap on the first two rounds. 5 points on the front 9 for both!! Tailed off and had no chance of winning the little trophy we were playing for. It was suggested that I be given a couple of extra shots to help me out....how dare they!! My "ego" if you like wouldn't allow me to accept them. I would rather score 5 points off my proper allowance than 7 off of a "mickey mouse" one.
I played crap, simple as. ;) ;) ;)

Hi,
What we usually do in the 4 balls each day is play match play but both scores to count on every hole so even if you are playing badley u have to keep trying usually losers have to buy dinner then we have a over all stableford for the day plus a overall for the tour.
