Hi Guys,

Planning a trip to the Edinburgh Festival for the fisrt timje this year and wanted some advice. Hoping to rope another couple in so that me and the other fella can slope off for some golf too, so any recommendations on clubs to visit would also be appreciated.

Here's what I need...

1; how best to plan a four day trip so you are seeing 2 good shows per day... and avoid the turkeys!!!

2; best cost hotels to stay in

3; golf recommnedations

4; anything else I missed

Any help will be rewarded with kind words and some double choc chip cookies ** this might not happen.

Can't offer too much in the way of help other than to say because of the festival EVERYTHING in Edinburgh will be more expensive, accommodation being the main chunk of your expense. I've sent a message to a friend of mine. She goes up every year to watch her brother, so she might be able to offer some help.

What I will say is make sure you DEFINITELY go and see The Three Englishmen show when you're there. One of the guys is a good friend of mine (as is his sister, see above) and their show is awesome.

Just loaf about The Pleasance, you'll see pretty much everything the festival has to offer.I like the festival, I feckin hate the crowds!Trying to get home from work is made considerably harder.

The best hotel to stay in is either the Balmoral,Prestonfield hoose or the caledonian (think thats closing for a refurb) Best value, get yourself down to Leith for a b&b or holiday inn express.I'll buy you a pint in the tam o shanter.

golf, plenty, mostly barry.

Sorry cant be of any help. But went once many years ago. Had a great time. So enjoy yourself Oh little one.

P.S. Do I get a biccy?

Went last year as my eldest son was doing a stand up gig. We stayed in a Travel Lodge for 1 night. Difficult to pick the shows and guarantee they're good. We saw three in the same place, one group were total pants, My lad was actually very good, and I'm not just saying that as his dad. The last guy we saw was Yianni Agisilaou, he was also pretty clever. We only stayed the one night, but then went over to St Andrews, stayed a night in the Old Course Hotel and played a couple of courses over there. Was a thoroughly enjoyable trip.
