Foresomes

Doesn't Muirfield only allow foursomes on certain days/ afternoons?

I think Gullane has the same sunday mornings?

Two ball play i.e. singles or foursomes at Muirfield but I don't think the same is true at Gullane. After all they have got three courses to choose from.

From the responses on here it would seem that the division appears to be along traditionalist v. modernist as there also seems to be antipathy towards matchplay, the original (and to me at least) the purest form of the game.

Not sure where I fit on your divide, love matchplay, detest foursomes (and got to play a scratch match for the club at the weekend :( )

Our foursomes competitions are very well supported, and are one of the hardest to win once let alone twice.

We also have a foursomes league team, which I played in once, but it was all a bit too serious for me. Did manage a win though so retired with 100% win record.

Well, if it's good enough for The Honourable Company.

The only time I played at Muirfield was when I played with the company I worked for. It was decided we would play foursomes because it was "a more social game" I partnered a 25 handicapper, who was playing badly. I got no idea about how the course really played. I'm still scarred by the experience.

Like matchplay - both HC and scratch

In fact like any form of golf

Played a three ball today. We played "Chairman" and, typically, nobody got a point. But it's a quick, entertaining way of playing where your shots count more than in a fourball. Really enjoyed it. "Skins" in a three ball is also excellent.

Half the shots = half a round. I'd really rather not bother with foursomes, greensomes or Texas Scramble. Not proper golf.

So if you complete the round in 70 strokes rather than 80 you have only had seven eighths of a round.

Believe there is a clear difference between playing every shot yourself - full round

Sharing shots with someone else - half round

Playing foursomes you share the round of golf

Regardless of how many shots it is

Skins is a great game, played the other week and a friend of mine won after only winning two holes, he had a complete mare and just scored well when we scored badly

Might just be Gullane No1 then, we have a match against them and the Sunday morning game is Foursomes as that was all that was allowed until 11.30 or there about's if my memory serves me right.

We have a no fourballs before 9am during the season so guys play foursomes who tee off before that.... untill the 2nd tee anyway;)

In the words of John McEnroe " You cannot be serious!" It's no coincidence that "foursome" & "abortion" rhyme.

Merely following your "half a round" claim.

Oh! I won't be asking you to writ any rhyming couplets if that is your idea of a rhyme.

Guess I was lucky to play with a very good golfer, also play well and we get on well

i wouldn't want foresomes to be the main stay of my winter golf but another 4 or 5 matches will be fine!

Maybe be it's the different challenge and competition I found satisfying. Would I have been as happy if we had a shocker instead of being underpar gross for 15 holes :)
