Foresomes

We dont have a practice ground tho , not one that reflects course conditions , if we had id say i would probably split my time between there and playing comps through the winter ..

I do see and can understand the other points you make very well tho ,

No issue with using the course for practice during quiet times but on winter week-ends when many members have their only opportunity of a game it should be about maximising that opportunity during limited daylight.

Now I'm retired I keep out of the way on Saturdays to try and make it a little easier for the "working" golfer.

I am that "working" weekend golfer mate :(i play in the comps but use them as practice i have to as the time sheets are full , i always try to score as low as i can but at the same time i dont worry bout the score as they non qualifying , we play 13 hole comps and so far have played 3 rounds of our winter league ,

With a sporadic shift pattern and my golf mates all working normal hours it's hard to get out all together and only hitting the ball every other turn seems a waste of that money I spend on Green Fees. However, having said that I do enjoy Texas Scramble as you're still hitting every time, just picking the better shot to play from.

Should be compulsory for the Winter weekends.
Lots more folk on the course/bar and a 2.5 to 3 hour round.

Expect our course would lose 10s if not 100s of members if you made the horrific format of 4somes compulsory at weekends, even in winter, might work up in Scotland but cant see it being too popular at most courses

Well, if it's good enough for The Honourable Company, it should be good enough for the rest of us on occasion ;)

Great format during the winter, keeps it moving and you're not out in the wilds too long.

But only playing half a game

And what happens if you only normally play in 3 balls ?

Better tell that to the Ryder Cup organisers.

Not half a game at all. It is a different format, that's all.

You play have a game - you dont play the full 18 holes yourself

Ok for the off comp - just like the Ryder Cup

But every day over the winter ?! Not in a million years.

Pay membership money and green fees to play my own ball and my own game not share with someone else

And what about people in threeballs or any swindle were they have odd numbers who turn up regulary

If we were to measure annual subs on a value for money basis and use the number of times you hit the ball as a measure then there really is not much point in improving as you will hit the ball fewer times ergo poor value.

Why, I almost feel sorry for the scratch golfer!

I would not advocate foursomes as the sole form of golf but I would suggest that in the winter months busy clubs could employ it more.

BTW I noticed someone mentioned Texas Scrambles and I think my dislike for that abomination is matched only by yours for Roy Hodgson.

Didnt say anything about the number of times hitting the ball - it's being able to play your own game and not share with someone else

Employing foursomes is only ever done at our place in a comp - those comps are very rare because the numbers entering are low

And Scramble is ok a couple times a year as a fun comp

Well I have always said that they are a strange lot in Leighton Buzzard.

Only kidding, my dad was born in South Street, LB.

You keep that idea at your club. I really don't see the point in playing foresomes in bounce game. Fine if you get to play midweek but for those of us who have to work, we want our 1 round a week to be a full round with our own ball, not standing around doing nothing and hitting half the shots.

Nope, not even fine if you play midweek!!!!!!
