When was the last time you actually found a decent ball? I lose plenty but all I ever find is Donnay's and Top-flights, where do all the decent balls that we lose go?

Last ball was a prov1, its a mix though of what I find, I tend to either throw the poor ones back in or give the harder balls to my higher handicap partners as practice balls, Ive got plenty so dont need any more.
Kind of funny though, on average Id say I find more prov1s just borderline loseable and pinnacles etc a lot deeper into the rough, must be a lot of long hitters using crap balls these days (and the 220-250 crew using only the best!) ;)

Sorry, must confess here
Most of the balls I find are better than the ones I use. I tend to go for the Callaway Diablos but find plenty of ProV`s. Worst I have found on our course is a Pinnacle Gold, but mostly Srixon AD333`s.

Guess I`m the one you guys talk about, :( Oh, the shame

It's funny you say that on Sunday we was looking for a ball and messing about I says to one of the guys " if anyone finds a Taylor made with 4 orange spots it's mine from last week" after a casual laugh a bloke says " I think this belongs to you "!

Playing in a competition about 3 weeks ago I sliced a ball into heavyish rough on our 9th hole. Played a provisional and did the same thing! It was a stableford so I didn't bother playing another prov, just went and looked for them.

I found the first one but not the second, a Bridgestone with a single orange dot on each side.

Later, we were on the 12th green (310yd par 4 and bone hard ground) and a ball came rolling onto the green from a guys tee shot. It was the ball I'd lost on the 9th about 45 minutes before!

I asked him if he found it where I thought I'd lost it and he said yes, and he'd started using it on the 10th, birdied that and 11 too. Plus drove the green on the par 4 12th.

Glad someone had a good day with it.

I'm another who will lose a Pro V and find a pinnacle. I have to be honest though and say I did buck the trend last week and found a Cally Tour iX and an old Pro V which will be ideal for evening knockabouts

Last decent ball I found was a Nike Platinum, it's actually rather good. Plenty long and quite spinny around the greens. The other tatties go into the practice bag.

My wifes aunt and uncle own a farm very near a golf course and last year they gave me a carrier bag full of balls they had picked up from their grazing land which is adjacent to one of the fairways.

In the bag was around 60 balls, 20-odd of which were decent grade Pro-V's. The rest were a mix of nike, callaway, a couple of noodles and about 10 real old crappers.

When playing I have found many a decent ball but the rule of thumb I discovered is that the more expensive the course, the crapper the balls you find.

Seriously, at princes you would find donnays, cougars, top-flites and the similar in plentiful quantities but decent balls were like rocking horse crap. I think that people were loathed to use decent balls through fear of losing them which is very easy there.

You should have been at Castle Stuart, I found nearly a dozen prov1s in the first couple of holes. The left side of the first was a real gold mine! haha.

I was walking round a course near Belfast today and found just under 100 balls, some I threw away. Out of the 100 there was 30 Pro v's, 22 of them nearly new, the rest will do the practice bag.
As for the other 65 - 70 balls, they were quite a mix from Srixon to Donnays. I know a few guys who play now and again so they will get those balls.

I've got this habit of losing my provisional ball but finding my first.
So I tend to use a worse ball for a provisional now. And while looking for the provisional I'll find every rubbish ball you can name.
I also have the habit of being the only one in a group looking for a ball that finds the crap ones. Everyone else finds ProV's etc - me? Quadra's and Donnay's. HHmmph!!

  ;)
You were there too were you? haha, 3 iron for safety and just drew it a touch too much and ended up in the first cut of heavy stuff at the base but found loads walking up to it.

the trick was, if you're gonna go left, go left - I was on the fairway above the gorse (the provisional was in it).
