I've got Django unchained to watch tonight,expecting big things.

Wasn't dissapointed,very good film.

I just can't pick three.
It's a toss up, depending on my mood, between the following and in no particular order,

Blues Brothers,
Zulu,
Saving Private Ryan,
Murder in the First
and the film that is positively my number one ................................ Jaws.
I'm old enough to have seen it when it first came out which was well before the days of CGI and special special effects.
It was so brilliant that I went to see it the following day too!
It's the only film I've ever seen that was better than the book.

I recently watched 'John dies at the end' which I thought was very good.
I liked the fact it wasn't a big-budget hollywood blockbuster. Paul Giamatti is in it, the rest of the actors were unknown to me (except the guy that plays one of the main prison guards in Shawshank redemption - the one who threatens to push Andy off the roof before he offers him tax advice).

Other films I have watched recently that I would recommend include;
captain phillips
eight men out - great film telling the story of the black sox
escape plan - Arnie and Sly - sunday afternoon viewing
finding forrester - really good film with Sean Connery
the frozen ground - based on a true story - chilling
hustlers - surreal

with naff all on TV last night, mrs and I started to watch the SAW films again, i know its cheese, but loved the first 4-5 of them! #1 last night was great!!

The first one was a bit of a classic with a nice twist at the end. Trouble is, as with most horror films, success means endless sequels following the same premise with diminishing returns on each one.

I watched The Amazing Spiderman 2 last night as I am bit of a comic nut. Quite enjoyed it though, as with most comic franchises, they ramp up the action and CGI to make a film that is more spectacular but less satisfying. Still, by introducing a couple of villains towards the end at least they can cut down the back story for the next one.

The exception to the rule has been the new Captain America film, one of the best Marvel films to date.

Looking forward to the new Godzilla film (though will be hard pushed to beat Pacific Rim for big monster spectacle) and the new X-Men film looks decent.

If you have not seen it already, film of the year so far has to be The Lego Movie, totally surprised when I took my nephew to see it.

I have watched Pacific Rim twice - I'm not entirely sure why I watched it for a second time.
As a film - it is not exactly great.
As a spectacle - it is pretty impressive.

Agreed. So many of these giant monster films just do not give a sense of scale or spectacle but Pacific Rim gets that spot on

Manhunter far better film than Silence of the Lambs and red dragon , plus superb soundtrack, Iron Maidens in a Gadda da Vidda played at the climax of the film .
.

Agreed, it's by far and away my preferred film, but mostly for Michael Mann's style than the story telling SOTL's is the better movie IMHO of course, Manhunter is based on the better novel as well.


BTW - it's Iron Butterfly not Iron Maiden.

Watched "The Lone Ranger" at the weekend - brilliant - laughed all the way through it and just admired every line Johnny Depp gave as Tonto. It's "Pirates of the Caribbean" in Arizona but still right up there in my listings now.

Twas good but found it hard work listening to the quick US dialogue. Perhaps I'm just too old for Lego

Great dialogue between Travolta and Jackson, and to bring Arnold the pig from Green Acres into the script was brilliant.
