Hi as a new commer to golf i am about to invest in one of the above ,can anyone tell me if they are all different clubs ,the Fairway wood is obvious but are Hybrids and rescue one of them same clubs just named differently?which club is use for what shot please......pulling my hair out....thanks

Rescue & Hybrids are the same things they get called rescues cos they're easier to hit from the rough. As a beginner I'd go with the hybrid over the fairway metal, for most people long irons and few metals are the hardest clubs to hit accuracy wise.

If you have never tried a hybrid/rescue get down to Sports Direct and get one of the Dunlop clubs for £10-£15 and see how you get on.

Easier to hit than a 3 or a 4 iron from both the fairway and the rough

I'd agree with that, as a beginner it's not worth spending good money on something you might not get the hang of. I've got 2 hybrids in my bag. A steel shafted Hogan CFT Edge 2i which I very rarely use apart from off the tee on long narrow par 3's, & my Cleveland DST 3i which is one of my fave clubs. It's definitely far more forgiving than any long iron I've ever used.

Asking for specific recommendations is a bit of a waste of time. The only general advice you need is to try a few and don't spend much. Second or third hand is perfectly fine for now and once your game settles then you can invest a bit more.

I have a John Daly 3h which i bought from Sports Direct for about £12 and i can't hit it for toffee, yet i have a Callaway 4h, which i used to hit out the bunker from about 120 yards out to within 15ft of the pin last monday :)

I personally have a few mental issues looking down at a hybrid knowing I have to hit it like an iron, for me I much prefer a 5w.

Hybrids/Rescue/Utility, all the same. I started with some Mizuno mx950 hybrids, a 3 & 4, only just stopped using them recently as got new clubs. They were awesome for me as a beginner, I stupruggled massively with woods off the tee, 3 hybrid, no bother. Need to get them on eBay really as they are just sat in the shed. As others have said, 2nd hand is perfect, get better then spend the big money!
