Help! My bunker play around the green is fine and i usually get out first time and can plant the ball fairly close to the pin on a regular basis. My problem comes with fairway bunkers, i just cant seem to get any distance. Any advice on what to change from my greenside bunker play?

The trick is to hit the ball a little thin. Choke down and try to swing around yourself.....best to hit it with almost no divot.

Am I doing it wrong then?
I always put the ball back in my stance and hit down on it to make sure I don't catch sand first.

I tend to play it about 1/2 a ball further forward than normal. I bury my feet in the sand a touch to get a firm base and grip down to compensate and make sure its ball first. Only found one fairway bunker today and was 156 yards away. Hit my 6 iron prefectly but it hit the fringe of the green and kicked sharp right. :(
