Fairway bunkers

[HCFC]

Help! My bunker play around the green is fine and i usually get out first time and can plant the ball fairly close to the pin on a regular basis. My problem comes with fairway bunkers, i just cant seem to get any distance. Any advice on what to change from my greenside bunker play?

What sort of yardage are we talking? 50yds or 160yds?

The trick is to hit the ball a little thin. Choke down and try to swing around yourself.....best to hit it with almost no divot.

Am I doing it wrong then?
I always put the ball back in my stance and hit down on it to make sure I don't catch sand first.

ball more towards the front and catch it on the up

I tend to play it about 1/2 a ball further forward than normal. I bury my feet in the sand a touch to get a firm base and grip down to compensate and make sure its ball first. Only found one fairway bunker today and was 156 yards away. Hit my 6 iron prefectly but it hit the fringe of the green and kicked sharp right.

I was taught to 'keep the legs quiet' and take as little sand as possible.

A tip i use is not to squat on impact. It works for tiger...
