Fair or not??

Good grief seen it all now that is so bad, how can a club expect to keep members with temp greens like this, I think your mate has been done a favour being banned ;)

If a club uses temporary greens then they should be maintained and ready for a bit of bad weather.

Our place uses them and they're GUR through the summer and kept in a reasonable condition.

There's no point in even trying to putt on your mate's.

Think I'd of banned myself! What a shocker. Owner clearly disgruntled with the social media posts. But im sure so too are the members/people paying green fees with a green as long as the first cut! Owner should be ashamed he's selling that to folk to be honest.

There's no excuse for the temps to be like that. We've had a really wet winter but our temporary greens are still cut short.
Looking at that I'd have to ask where the temporary greens are placed? If they are on the fairway then it's even more shocking. Either way, they should have been prepared well in advance.
Banning him is too extreme.

Maybe the green staff were caught out by the weather. A growth spurt, then a freeze before the green could be cut. It's winter golf. What's the point in getting all hot under the collar.

If if the course was that rough in a months time I'd be annoyed, but not at this time of year.

As to the owner banning him. Maybe a conversation first and then a ban if he doesn't like the response.

I'm sorry Bri but I disagree, these are not greens where you have to be careful what equipment you use at times, these are temps and as such on the fairway and any part of the fairway & temps looking like that, IMO there is no excuse, he's well out of their and so should everyone else be if the owner acts like that.

Mate of mine was a member at quite a large club in Kent.
Unhappy with the state of the "temporary greens" they were asked to putt on, he posted these two pictures on Social Media.

Club owner found out about it and banned him from the club.
How would you feel?

There's an old saying about rich golf club owners, you can bonk their wife, steal their beer, but don't dare criticise their greens.

Is it fair to ban him? No, it's a completely fascist action, but not uncommon.

all but a couple of clubs up here are members clubs so i doubt anyone would ever get thrown out of a members club for criticizing the condition of a part of the course. There is one in Inverness though and the guy that owned that used to regularly tell anyone who did, that if they didn't like it F off.

Well at least the course was open and they did something to keep the guys playing in these months were there must more courses closed regularly than open.

So whilst it's not the greatest of temp and they are still playing it's very poor to be banning someone

The guy has entered into a legal contract with the owner and has to abide by the club rules. I guess it depends what the rules say about use of social media although I agree it sounds like the guy has been a bit draconian.

Blimey those are the worst temp greens I've ever seen. Makes a travesty of the game and what they needed to do was bring in a local rule stating anything within 30 feet is a gimme. :mmm:

Truly shocking temp greens but I assume as a member of a club, there are rules in place regarding social media and so the owner is probably within his rights but seems a very heavy handed attitude and probably done Smiffy's mate a favour. Has the guy in the OP paid his annual fees as that could be expensive if he then has to pay again (and possible joining fee) to find somewhere else to play
