Mate of mine was a member at quite a large club in Kent.
Unhappy with the state of the "temporary greens" they were asked to putt on, he posted these two pictures on Social Media.

Club owner found out about it and banned him from the club.
How would you feel?

The owner has done him a favour by the looks of it. Which club was it?

Always a bit of a risk posting stuff like this on social media and I assume the owner has a right to ban him. Still think it is unfair in the extreme. The owner should be ashamed at selling these conditions as temporary greens when they are actually light rough.

Maybe the green staff were caught out by the weather. A growth spurt, then a freeze before the green could be cut. It's winter golf. What's the point in getting all hot under the collar.

If if the course was that rough in a months time I'd be annoyed, but not at this time of year.

As to the owner banning him. Maybe a conversation first and then a ban if he doesn't like the response.

Our temps were a bit like these this year. I think the greenkeeper was caught out by the weather - it was so wet in the late autumn/early winter that they didn't get a chance to mow them. Very mild too, so the grass grew a lot.

Wasn't too much of a problem - we just added one to the score if you got it inside the blue lines and moved on (they are quite small temps). During the period when they were in play the course was so wet that we were only really playing for the exercise anyway.

As an unexpected bonus, we knocked about an hour and a quarter off the round. Better not tell delc....

Certainly didn't seem worth shaming the club, these are not the times to be putting off prospective members.

That is so bad all I could do was laugh.I have to say, that although my club is a public course, and the green fees are very cheap, our greens have been great throughout the winter, and open all but one day. Problem is that they haven't been able to cut the rough, so balls have been a nightmare to find.

The owner is a bit green if you ask me, The club don't have grounds to ban your mate for putting pictures on social media, and there's no need to be that rough when your mate was already feeling a bit flat. 😀

(I'll get my coat)

Sorry that is taking the piss! People pay good money to clubs and they get that, my club is a pay and play and ours are 20x better then that when the greens are on temps!

That is just dreadful, absolutely no excuse whatsoever for any place claiming to be a 'golf club' to have temporary greens like that.

Did your mate make any comments Rob ? Seems unfair ,but with temps & an owner like that he is better off out of it anyhow

That's not acceptable , if greens even temps cant be cut due to weather , course shouldn't be open

Owners banned the guy, that's mad.

Its not like the person has made up a picture, it is what it is.

I don't think he made any derogatory comments, other than something along the lines of "the temporary greens we had to play on today".
I'd rather not name the club in question, but as I say, it's a relatively large course on the Kent/Sussex borders.

Better off outa there so , bad management with bad attitude to members ,ur better off not mentioning the name of the club anyhow mate

Social media is not the place to have these arguments. From the owners point of view it could be an unjustified attack on his business and potentially do great harm to future profits etc. Are all the greens like this? or is it just one or two? Is this the worst example the player could find or representative of all the greens? Is it for a prolonged period? Are there extenuating circumstances? ....are all questions that need to be answered before a proper judgement can be made. The alternative may have been to keep the course closed etc. A random post on Facebook or whatever really doesn't ever tell the full story. Not surprised he's been banned. Ask yourself how a member at a private club would be treated in the same circumstances? If the committee were communicating and the vast majority of members are supportive how would you feel about some random member slagging the course?
On the face of it I agree it looks harsh but maybe it's not as clear cut as it's being portrayed??
