Okay, I have just discovered that Apple Music that I pay for for my kids is something I can also get on my Android phone. I can now catch up with the rest of the world in having pretty much any music on my phone / device. I'm not a big music fan, can't claim to have a collection, but do like a Best Of. The question is then, who should I download? What are the essential groups that everyone should have on their phone?

I have questionable taste but as a guide I currently have Erasure, David Bowie, Marc Almond, The Jam (80's theme going on here). I know little about the 70's so have just added an Eagles best of.

Throw some names at me, no one but no one suggest any boy band, girl band, Madonna or Cold Play. The rules have been established :D

More Erasure. You can never have enough remixes or live versions of Vince and Andy. I totally recommend the Wild Live concert from the Docklands Arena in 1989 (as I was there!)

In that vein Bronski Beat's The Age of Consent is a cracker - not sure if it is essential though...depends where you stand

I actually downloaded a Jimmy Summerville compilation from his time with them, The Communards and solo stuff. Great fun if you are in the right mood.

Some good suggestions. I was expecting a Led Zeppelin post at some stage. Where are the old rockers from the forum?

I must admit to thinking Pink Floyd, and thought tone down a bit to Supertramp.

Queen, Bon Jovi, AC/DC, checkout some older rock like Creedence Clearwater Revival, Free, Argent, Manfred Mann.

Can't believe no mention of the Rolling Stones yet! Eric Clapton, Springsteen.....the list is endless!

Supertramp always reminds me of the greatest ever letter in Smash Hits. "If Supertramp claim to be a mid-Atlantic band, could they please go and live there". Still makes me laugh nearly 40 years after I read it.
