England (Youth) Football

Players who could have played in the U21 Comp

Pickford - played
Stones
Winks - might have played
Dier
Alli
Rashford
Sterling
Shaw - might have been injured

Rashford will still be eligible for the next one as well and he should go - same with anyone else who is eligible

Not sure what the clubs have to do with but it all misses the point

Other nations players who are still eligible to play in the U21’s but are also in the Senior team have no issues moving between the two teams depending on the status of the Comp - all the nations that have won or got to finals of major comps have no problems sending them to U21 comps - so why can’t England follow the same model
There is the old scenario of when Germany played England in the U21 final - Germany won - in the WC of 2014 which they won - I believe it was 8 of the players who played in that final where in the Germany WC squad with 6 playing the Final. England had one player from that Final who was in the Squad.

Our U21 teams have been successful for a long time - the issue that has been is zero pathway to the main team - believe that’s changing with Southgate a little but the pathway still needs to go both ways and if an eligible player can go to U21 then he should and it shouldn’t be deemed as any sort of demotion it should be all part of the learning curve.

I suspect England will continue to thrive at Youth level up to U21 but after that they will still struggle - teams in the Prem especially the top teams won’t play them , wont take the risk on them over sustained periods of time so these players won’t be getting playing time at the highest level including the CL.

If England would like to succeed at International level then I suspect player quotas would need to be introduced in regards how many English players need to be in match day squads etc

Follow the model so is it France Germany or spain? that's part of the problem we spend years copying the successful team and then change staff and start again before the project reaches fruitation. The current batches (u20-u17) with The Future Game outlook and the England DNA project are the first to benefit of years of stay on the ball and excite when in possession.

On the chances of 1st team football why would teams play players in the PL, CL unless they are as good as if not better than senior players? football is a results business and its all well and good saying we won the world cup for England :D but how trophies did you win? None but we developed some great players.......

That said some teams do constantly have a pathway for the ones that are good enough 80 years of a home grown player being in the matchday squad.....

Over a 1000 continuos games for us

Footballs coming home its coming home its coming home. Its coming footballs coming home 😂

What doesn’t help is when these u21 tournaments come around and the players that have hit the main teams don’t go - for example Rashford etc this summer should have gone away to the tourney instead of playing in the full squad - it gives them Tournament experience.

Teams like Germany , Spain , France , Italy always send their best players of that age group regardless of if they play for main squad.

I think they should play for the senior OR the age group team in the one summer, but not both as it was rumoured they were going to do with (I think it was Sterling the other year) - thats just asking for burn-out.

Fantastic performance and even at 2-0 the heads never dropped. Great performance but the issue remains about how many can move on and develop in PL first teams. In a way its a shame next year is a WC as Southgate will use friendlies to try players for that. I'd love to see him decide to give youth it's head for one game and play some of the U21 and U17 team irrespective of the outcome. At least they'd have something to aim for going forward if they could see a way into the first team. I still fear a lot of this talent won't be allowed to blossom under a deluge of foreign bought in talent

Why not just enjoy this success?

Yup
Great to see an attack minded England team.
Lad on left wing was fantastic
Foden brilliant for his age looks good enough now for prem.
Whole team were great and a bit unlucky to go two down.

Spanish fullback very lucky lad to stay on pitch but this lead to a goal so justice done.

Great to watch as the full squad are boring to watch atm.

I am extremely pleased for them and it was a superb performance. I was merely being realistic that going forward, with a plethora of developing talent, they need to be nurtured and allowed to play in more senior sides and PL teams
I get that, just why a few hours after the game, at least let them enjoy their moment in the spotlight.
