End of season report - have you achieved your 2015 goals?

Target was 9.4 (to get me back to SF). Sitting at 9.9 with last Sat medal of season coming up this weekend. Can I knock it round in 3 under h/cap? Hmmm. I'm certainly capable of doing so but it will totally depend upon whether or not I can keep the unmentionables out of my round. If I do, and play a normal game with a few good putts and chips then I will.

C+ for me, not playing consistently to the standard I'd expected to be at the end of the season, few cuts and 0.1s but 2 wins and a runner up across events, putting improved and a feeling that something really good is within reach means I'm not unhappy... just wish a few swing changes would be bedded in by now rather than being there one day and gone the next!

This could be a bit lengthy, bear with me.....

It's been a pretty good year for me, a few long term goals hit but also falling just short at times. I'd say A-

Main thing is I worked hard at my game and I have improved. Handicap dropped from 4.4 to 3.1, hopefully with scope to go lower still. Still undefeated in the H4H handicap challenge! :D

I qualified strongly for the county championship but had a nightmare in the matchplay and was soundly beaten in the first round.

This year in the Scottish Ladies (Close) Am Championship my main goal was to post two respectable scores and hopefully sneak into the "second flight" matchplay. Instead, my game really clicked and I tied 4th in qualifying, eventually qualifying 5th on countback. I won through two rounds of matchplay before losing in the quarter final to a former Scottish champion.

Small consolation in what is a scratch competition, but I won a trophy for the "best net aggregate" in qualifying.

I had already been selected for the county squad for the first time and, largely as a result of doing so well in the Scottish, I was pleasantly surprised to make the actual team for the East division jamboree. We won that (I played 4, won 3 lost 1) so qualified for the Scottish County Finals. We kept the same team for the finals but I only played twice (won 1, halved 1) and we just lost out on the final day, finishing second.

As last year's club champion, I played in the county "Champion of Champions", which is a knockout scratch matchplay throughout the season between all the club champions in the county, and managed to reach the final. Sadly, once again, my game deserted me somewhat and I got a bit of a hammering in the final.

Didn't manage to play as many matches for the club team as I'd have liked, but won all those I did play pretty emphatically.

As unlikely as it sounds, I'm currently 12th in the SLGA order of merit, mainly due to the points I got at the Scottish although I did pick some up in the only other OOM event I played. I've now got my handicap down to a point that next year I can enter some of the other "big" events, although maybe not low enough to survive the ballot yet!

I won my club championship again.

Won a few other bits and bobs in minor medals and opens.

The frustration for me is the huge inconsistency in my play, sometimes even one day to the next. I need to improve that so there isn't such a big difference between my good and bad golf. Some of those matchplay defeats were pretty sore and I need my best golf against opponents like that but hopefully playing in more of these sort of matches will help me handle the pressure.

I didn't achieve my goal of breaking my home course record. Got within one shot of it but generally didn't play well enough in medals there this year.

Also disappointingly I still haven't brought my "A" game to any forum meets and while it was great to come down and play on the H4H weekend, it was awful to have to hobble off injured!

My big challenge is to keep improving next year, and to follow that. I'm optimistic that I can but I really overachieved at the Scottish so it'll be tough to repeat that. Keeping my place in the county team will also be difficult - there's huge competition for places so a real need to hit the ground running next season.

Well done anyone who read it this far! ;)

I would give myself a B, started the season at 11.4 finished at 9.8, should have made single figures which was my aim, but just never quite got there. Only managed one win which was a charity day. Represented the club in The Ulster Cup with 2 home wins and 2 away losses.

Highlight though was definitely the Galvin Green prize at Royal County Down courtesy of Golf Monthly.

Not a bad season.

Looks like you're in a very similar boat to me and doing better than me. Good job :)

Only by a bit!! My problem is consistency and length on my fair way shots. From my gamegolf details I am hitting my 6 iron 150ish yds, and have a steady 10 yd progression up to that from my other clubs, then I fall off the ledge with my 5 iron....don't seem to be able to hit that or my fairway woods any consistent distance. It makes long par fours really hard!! we have a couple on our course that are over 400yds.

I am going to be generous and give myself an A

(I say generous as I am usually tough on myself when it comes to self-evaluations)

- I achieved my Hcap target (7)
- I played some great courses for the first time with great company (Archerfield and all 3 Gullanes)
- Almost completed the sweep of Belek courses
- Won an Optional Medal (although it was a small field)

My biggest achievements were my swing change, improving my ability to 'shape' shots and being lucky enough to be invited to play in the Pro-Am for the Scottish Seniors open....and win !

As always with golf, there is work still to be done, and I'm in the midst of setting my 2016 targets

Good thread.

I knew this was going to be a tough year gowf wise, due to being on daddy day care every saturday.

Handicap wise, up by 0.2, have played 60 times so far, 17 different course, 5 team matches and enjoyed myself.

Hopefully get a few extra medal's next year and keep enjoying it

Great year from a Forum point of view, got to my first meets and now have some names to faces, played some lovely courses.
Also feel my game is coming along nicely.

I'll take a C

Just glad to be back playing golf weekly again, after about 7 years out of the game (well playing approximately 3 times a year).

Joined a club local to me with Wife/son and have had a couple of cracking rounds really when compared to the amount I play. I don't go to the range or like, as I play for fun and to beat myself.

Normally play around the handicap range of 7-13 but can also shot early 90s if not quite right on timing. One time this year was 2 under after 14, when light stopped play, never struck the ball that well before from tee to green.

Putting is still poor and not getting enough birdies to make up for all my loose shots.

Next year looking to play at least 18 holes weekly, hopefully a more repeatable swing and keep trying to improve my putting, so about a C+ overall.

Wife plays to about a 50 handicap (normally scores about 10 on stableford:cool: on golf days and she would have to be scored with a U :D and me/my son laugh a lot at her (top wife!)

An enjoyable year of golf for me, probably the most since i've started playing.

Started the year on 18 and wanted to get to 15, currently at 13.6.

Winning the October Medal out of 132 people was a highlight for me, that was after two doubles and a three off the tee! So there is a better game in me somewhere.

Thoroughly enjoyed our RSG and RCP meet, won the RCP section too!

Project single figures seemed laughable 18months ago when I talked it over with my neighbour but there is a dim light at the end of the tunnel and I hope by the start of summer next year I can be there or there about.

This is the precise reason I've just invested in a 21 deg hybrid. So much easier to hit than my longer irons.

E

Had a target of getting to single figures, started the year on 11.0, finished on 10.9.

Haven't practiced all year, and have probably averaged about 2.5 rounds a month.

On the positive, I have enjoyed the golf I have played and had a couple of wins in a little society I am in.

Only reason it isn't an F is because despite my lack of play and practice I have consolidated at 11, and am capable of shooting well under it on any given day. Just hasn't happened for me in medals this year.

Just. Only goal was to stay off 6 as I've not been playing anywhere near as much as I used to for a couple of years now. Started 5.9, after many 0.1's and a few buffers drifted up to 6.8. Was getting very depressed and even considering not joining next year when last Saturday, out of the blue I shot -3 nett, down to 6.2 and with only 2 qualifiers left before the winter comps start can't go back up to 7. Second prize and £75 pick-up too!! Mission accomplished and mojo back.

I'd mark it as a D.......Surprisingly good result after little or no work all year. Really must apply himself.

Yeah that's on my list of things I want! I bought a 17 degree hybrid but it might as well be a fairway wood given the length of the shaft. It was a dodgy ebay purchase for £14 so I wasn't too worried about it not working. :) I have had a go with my friend's 22 degree Dunlop and I seem to be able to hit that okish. I just need to try a couple first before deciding on getting one!

Dropped from 13 to 11.8 and won this month's stableford which was a pleasant surprise.

Biggest improvement has seen the introduction of fairway woods into the bag (5 and 7). Has taken most of the year to get to grips with them, but have definitely added options off the tee and fairway.

Need to putt better next year. I make Adam Scott look like Speith....

First proper year at a club as a member, I've enjoyed it immensely. Wanted to get into the teens by December and I've managed it, got to the semi final of the high handicapper matchplay and won the June stableford.

One bad round away from being off 20 though

Golf skills - Hopeless

Qualifiers = Fourteen 0.1s, One buffer, no cuts.
Knockouts = Entered two, out first round in both
I've reached the end of the season where when I'm stood over a shot, the only thoughts in my head are negative ones.

Only myself to blame as not much practice and only one lesson at the start of the year to try and cure a bad case of the shanks, which has reduced their frequency but not banished them.

Golf enjoyment - Higher than it should be considering the above.

Played some great courses and with lots of really good people.
The occasional great shot to keep me believing I might be able to play the game.

Very enjoyable year, playing some great courses, with some ok guys.;) New courses included Royal Liverpool, Royal St Georges, Royal County Down, Royal Portrush, oh yes and Royal Lee Park.

Handicap started at 11.0, and I managed to slash that to 10.9:whoo: Nice win in the Pro Am, and a second in a medal, so a few quid in the Pro shop.

Reduced my handicap from 13.7 to 10.5, although currently at 10.8

total of 7 cuts, 2 board comp wins and one more opportunity in this Sunday's trophy winners championship.

played in a few club matches and have 'got involved', as a match organiser.

Most importantly I've played lots of golf and enjoyed it a great deal

so lots of boxes ticked, and I'd give myself a solid B.

would have been better if I hadn't had a 6 week attack of the unmentionables in the middle of the year.
