Duvals Last Season??

Never warmed to Duval. He had medical issues and has been playing the minor tours in the US to get some form back. I wonder if he will make it back and get a tour card. Seems to be doing ok this week but I doubt he'll make it

Well, Duval is hardly destitute.

His story has been extensively described and it seemed that he just lost his appetite for the game, and wanted to be at home with his family rather than globetrotting around the world. People who know Duval say that his on course persona is very different from his off course one. He also had a very traumatic event in his childhood when his big brother died of leukaemia despite David undergoing painful bone marrow aspiration to help him. That appears to have had a lasting effect on him.

I like him, and like to see him play. Hopefully he can win again before his career closes.

Keeping the thread off topic; I've got absolutely nothing against "he's" when it's spoken but its use in the written form is just wrong and every time I read it in a thread it jars and breaks the flow of the post.

Surely there's (see what I did there) nothing wrong with it if used in the right context. As in, "He's" - he is, feeling poorly today, rather than "His" feeling poorly today.

Getting the thread back on track again. I used to think Duval had one of the finest iron games I've ever seen, just sublime.

I also used to think he had a dour character - until I heard his victory speech for the first time, completely changed my mind from that point on. He spoke very well and expressed a real sense of humour!

Really hope he gets back on track.

David Duval won the Open the year my team of Juniors did a scoreboard.

I hope he finds a place/niche doing something good with his golf.

Must say I never really liked the guy as he rose through the rankings. Seemed robotic and lacking in personality.

BUT.... I was there at Royal Lytham in 2001 when he gave one of the most respectful and humble acceptance speeches I've ever heard at the Open or anywhere else. Certainly changed my view of him and probably exposed something we all fall into sometimes of judging people we don't even know based on very limited info! I thought it was a real shame when he declined so suddenly. The margins are so small in the pro game.
I was also in the grandstand on the 18th at Lytham that day and remember being disappointed Duval had won - until he made that speech. I and I guess many fans went away feeling very happy about his success.
As with any golfer who has suffered such a decline, it is a real shame. If he quits then it is the games loss. I wish him well.

Stories like this and Ian Baker-Finch's are very sad and show just how fickle this game can be. They aren't the only ones either. Just wondering if this happens in other sports? Trying to think of examples where top players have completely lost the ability to compete without injury or illness being a factor, but can't off the top of my head.

You might want to work on some useful contributions to the site matey and try and quit the pathetic little jibs your boring life seems to so need .

what a NOB! no offense:cool:

I don't JIBS anyone, whatever that is:confused: just pointing out how difficult reading any of your wonderful posts are as you cannot understand some basic English. Nice retort by the way:whistle:

Never particularly warmed to Duval (probably the shades) but was disappointed to see how rapidly he fell down the rankings after finally getting his Major to go with his World #1. Must say that that was one of the more 'interesting and memorable' Opens, with Woosnam's Drivers screw up and one of the Scandinavians (Bjorn or Fasth I think) carving one 'OB' that wasn't and reloading without mentioning 'Provisional Ball'.

Read an article on Duval some years ago and he's a serious family guy who just happens to be supremely talented at Golf. Can't be a great deal of fun for someone who has been at the top to be struggling to make cuts every time they actually get an invite. Dont think he's on the breadline quite yet though! His career winnings are pretty close to £20M and Nike sponsorship would have been lucrative as well! Seem to remember he shot a 59 in the last round to win a tournament somewhere as well!

@CMAC Keep hammering the 'proper English' campaign! It does make easier to read. The misuse of 'went' (a couple of ways) makes me laugh. No hope of changing teenager styles though - and text/twitter-speak is 'sumn else'!
