Summer singles at Dunbar and I flush my drive down the first, a par five, the winds blowing a bit, but not too bad. My opponent does the same and nicks it by a few feet. Tommo lays up short of the stream and my opponent flushes his second shot into less than 6 feet and I was giving him a shot…….12 of them. Anyway the game is tight and he pars the 460 yard 12th, net birdie, to go 2 up. I then dig deep and play par golf for the next 4 holes to go one up as the rain started. Then a wee sharp storm comes through, head on, and the wind was that strong that I couldn’t hold my brolly. I get it back to one up at 16 and I flush my tee shot down 17, it’s only 338 yards from the white tee but it looked and seemed 438. I flush a drive that looks to have gone nowhere. He hooks his, but it’s safe and in play. He then cuts it over to the hazard, right and short. Off a tight lie I flushed a 21 degree into 18 inches, that’s how strong the wind was, it landed soft like a wedge. He chips out, putts well past the hole and misses the return. Game over. I hit every single fairway, best driving round ever. Even hit two drivers into the greenside bunker at the par five 9th ….happy chappy….for now.
