Before I go for a custom fitting, has anyone got any comments/thoughts on my two possibles - the TaylorMade Superquad TP versus the Ping Rapture V2? My current Ping G5 10.5 Aldila 65 is simply flying too high, at the expense of much distance.

TM have two new drivers coming out very soon. A 460 cc R9 with FCT and moveable weights, and a new burner. Thing is, you get a TM driver, and 3 weeks later they supercede it, and you feel robbed. They do make nice drivers though.

The Ping is fine, if you are over 60, and don't mind looking it. (don't like Ping, my Dad has always played Ping, and has never got near single digits, not a good advert).

The superquad tp is meant to be a low spin head, which should suit me, but I still generated way too much back spin with it, whatever shaft they tried.

Go somewhere with an open mind, where there is alot of choice, and don't be suprised if they recommend a low loft. I have gone down to 8.5 degrees, to keep the back spin down.

Ive tried all if not most of the TM drivers and I find all fly to high for me. I have got the Ping rapture but not the V2 I have had the G2 and G5 both of which I liked.

Tried the G10 not for me, the rapture for me is the best of the bunch still have it still use it if I was going to change i'd go for the V2.

Lots more drivers than TM and Ping. I wouldn't buy either of those. TM bring out a new driver every 5 minutes, and they are getting increasingly ugly. Ping drivers often tend to be a bit more lofted than stated, and the standard shafts are soft.

Best thing is to go somewhere with a Titleist/Cobra fitting cart and try several combinations of head and shaft. A 909D2 witha Voodoo shaft should be a strong medium trajectory combination.

Save yourself some money and go to a club fitter. If you like the G5 head why not just try different shafts? Something lika a grafalloy platinium which is a mid trajectory or the grafalloy red which is a low launching shaft could make all the difference.

I have never hit a TM driver which doesn't launch sky high.

I'll vouch for the Grafalloy red. Have one in my G10 and it goes nice and low (but not as low as Murphs opening tee shot at Lewes on Sunday ;))

For me, can't beat my Ping G10 12° with standard Ping shaft. Used to use Cleveland Hi-Bore XLS 10.5° but this was always a very high flight and I seemed to lose a lot of distance. As soon as I tried the Ping it gelled straight away. Much lower trajectory and noticeably better distance. :D
