I'm looking for a driver fitting where I can try a few different heads and shafts (thinking callaway epic, Taylor made m2 & ping g, any others would be a bonus). Ideally looking for somewhere with a good choice of shafts to try and find one that suits a windy course, but not looking for something exotic and expensive.

Flying into gatwick and heading to farnborough, not driving, so would silvermere be my best bet? Or any other suggestions?

Silvermere would certainly would have those brands.

Homer got fitted by an independent fitter in that general area (just forgotten who & exactly where). From memory, he didn't stock Callaway kit though.

There are several others in the same general area too - google (maps) is your friend!

Depending upon your budget (as likely to end up with custom shaft) Golf Principles in Basingstoke (closer than Silvermere) but would need to book or similar Precision Golf (West Byfleet) which are both circa 15 miles away.

Silvermere has a very good choice for your off the rack stock options.

Rest is mainly AG stores, Camberley being closest (would do Silvermere ahead of AG)

Precision Golf is just round the corner from Silvermere and if you want the full fitting experience then no contest imo. Is more expensive than Silvermere but they give a more complete service with a huge number of heads and shafts to try.

I've no intention of buying the club from the fitter as I have money on my account at my club, I assume I just pay for the cost of the fitting then.

I won't be paying extra for an expensive shaft that I can't get with the Oem drivers, so would golf principles or precision golf be pointless?

Why don't you just get fitted with your pro then ? No point going to others if you don't want a Non Oem shaft and only going to buy from your club

Yep, they'd be completely pointless. Silvermere is probably you best bed

Then just go to American golf and hit a few in the net but I wouldn't expect too much "fitting" if you have no desire to buy from them.
Then how can they justify charging a fitting fee, I thought the whole idea was that they waived the fee if you bought from them otherwise you paid for their time

Go to Silvermere, they will have all of that in with the OEM fitting carts. I think you have to book the fittings in but you get some "free" gear (think green fee voucher + towel + sleeve of balls or something), might be wrong but my dad went for a full fitting there and came back with some stuff.

The real value in precision golf is being able to go back there whenever and never being charged for fitting again once you have had it done once. Downside being that the actual purchase is expensive.

They certainly all do pay a fee and get a spec but some of the fees may be higher (Precision being most expensive).

Personally I do not know if the specialists will do a OEM based fit so I would suggest you call them and ask (nothing ventured nothing gained), you would have to book in advance anyway and if they do this you get an expert fitter.

Myself or son have been through the process at Silvermere, local pro, AG and Golf Principles over the years so can let you know the differences as I perceive them if you want to know (be bored perhaps !).

Silvermere have a really nice facility, certainly have a wide selection of brands and shafts as they have fitting carts for almost any top brand I can think of (key as pro's pay for these so have few), do the basis you describe of pay or offset so sure they can sort you out with what works well for you and you like and give you a spec.

Once you have the spec as you have local shop credit your pro can order in.

It was Pachesham Golf Centre near Leatherhead. I haven't been there for a long time and it was going through a big revamp with the range closed and fitting's done in a net via a launch monitor. It was a great set up when I went but you'd need to do some checking online and to be honest Silvermere is probably a better option these days

I'm off to Silvermere for a fitting next week. It's £60 for an hour and a half, they refund it if you buy from them, but I have already said I won't be buying on the day. the thing I like about Silvermere is that it is a big open range, the fitting uses ZStar balls so you can get a better impression of your shots over the places that just a flightscope in nets. They also have a wider range of clubs to try.

Thanks, this is exactly the sort of set up I am looking for.

I like Silvermere a lot and it does benefit from being able to hit out onto a range and watching the ball flight of each club or set up and tracking them on the monitor. For me, especially for irons, flight is very important and you simply can't get that hitting on a simulator
