Dress standards at the Club

At the end of the day, the rules are clearly published and the choice is yours. If you don't like the code don't join. Most clubs around here have similar rules give or take although others like mine are more relaxed. You pays your money and takes your choice

Out of date? I think it's pretty reasonable actually. I'd rather play somewhere like this club than on a course full of football shirts and bare chested guys.

If you are cool enough to pull this look off then good for you
Who mentioned football shirts??? I'm pretty sure most of the forum would be against football shirts on the course.[/QUOTE]

Brits abroad kit that. Hate golf shorts personally they just look stupid to me but each to their own. Denim and football shirts have no place on the course IMO. Turn up in them fine no problem but change into golf clothing upon arrival.

Think we've already covered this. The OP put the letter up for people's views on it,none of us are demanding they change their policies. If this is how the club expects its members to dress & the members are happy then good for them.

What gets me is god forbid your socks are the wrong colour or there is a pocket on the side of your shorts but a bright multi coloured pair of trousers that even timmy mallet wouldn't wear is acceptable!!!!!

I had to call down to Cooden last week on my day off to pay the deposit for our upcoming meet.
I was at home wearing a pair of jeans and a casual shirt, but changed into a decent pair of trousers and a "smarter" shirt before I went down there. I couldn't bear the thought of entering the golf club casually dressed.
It's called "etiquette".

Have to agree with that. Some of the clothing seen on course is hideous and wouldn't look out of place in a circus!

OK, it's like this and it is for everyone. When you join a club you agree to adhere to it's dress code, you are advised of it before joining and regularly once in . If you are not prepared to dress in the way the club requires then do not join and go join somewhere that has a dress code you are happy with. It really cannot be simpler. It is no good trying to be a rebel once you have joined and stamping your feet until you get your way. Accept that you joined the club and get on with it. There is no doubt in my mind that as generations go on mankini's will be the thing to play in but until then stick to the dress code of the club YOU joined.

I'm all for keeping with tradition on the course with regard to dress codes, but the white sock thing is kin ridiculous.
I think most clubs are becoming more forward thinking when it comes to the 19th though, a less formal dress code in the clubhouse is far more likely to attract more people imo.
As long as someone is clean and tidy i really couln't give a monkeys what they wear in the clubhouse.

It always strikes me as strange when clubs put up all of these silly defined dress codes but never include waterproofs and hats.
If someone walked onto the 1st tee dressed in oilskins I wonder what would happen.

I suspect a pretty bad shank.
Oilskins aren't conducive to a smooth swing.

+1. Saw a guy the other day in a Ricky Fowler Orange top, White blue and pink check trousers, mainly red golf shoes and purple hat. This would be acceptable but my White polo and Navy shorts with small side pocket wouldn't be at some places!
