I've been playing the game seriously now for about 6 months. My scores have gone down from 100ish to mid 80's consistently (par 72 course). But today I rolled up expecting to play well, and the complete opposite happened, I never hit ONE iron shot well, I couldn't believe it, by the 8th my head was down, tempo was off and just didn't enjoy it.

Do you think I'm putting too much pressure on myself? I shot 92 in the end which is a decent score but it was scrappy, so I didn't know whether to be happy about being able to fight for some decent scores or grovel in the poor ball striking!

Playing again tomorrow lets hope it improves!

I didn't play well today either & had a very bad score, so I went & played the back 9 holes again without scoring.
I played these really well & came away happy.

6 months playing and you've dropped to consistent mid 80's! Then have a bad day and shoot 92. I wish I could shoot a regular 92 so yes you are putting to much pressure on yourself.

Forget the bad round get back out and keep going.

sudden swing disintegrations like this can sometimes, I repeat sometimes be purely down to alignment, check all is square then swing freely

I think this may be part of the problem though! in my last lesson I was told my alignment wasn't great, but it was that alignment I was playing well with, but now when I address the ball I've got 100 thoughts running through my head about alignment surely that can't help!

I know 92 is a decent score! just a really scrappy round today, I just got too far ahead of myself and expected too much

I usually find that if I go out expecting to play well then normally end up hacking it round, where as if I have no expectations of good golf then the opposite happens

Exactly! For instance tomorrow i'll go and slow everything down, take me time and will probably do OK, but today was a horror show! Happy birthday by the way If i'm interpreting that candle and cake correct :D

dont worry about it, everyones gone out at some stage & struck the ball all day like a complete W... Everton fan ;)

ppl spend too much time worrying about how they played last time, once that flags back in on the 18th its over

only time to think about the bad stuff is when your your about to go or are on the practice ground/range working on that bad stuff

you didnt score too poorly yet struck it badly so some part of the game must of been ok scrambling ? short game ? putting?

if 92 a bad day think about how good it'll be when u have a good day

take the positives out of it & forget the bad stuff

Played last Friday at Cooden. 2 rounds of 41 points. No blobs, no three putts.
Played at Hankley Common on Tuesday, really looking forward to it. 9 points on the front, 13 on the back.
Now that was depressing.

There will be positives to take from every round.

I NR'd at 15 yesterday in our comp.

In the 15 holes I played I had 9 pars with 6 of them being tap ins after decent attempts at birdie.

The other 6 holes were terrible, 3 doubles and 3 triples.

What I am taking from it is I was striking the ball well with my irons and everything was under control for the majority of the round. Even the bad holes I didn't hit terrible shots, was unlucky with a few. Found a terrible divot on one of the fairways an don the other I hit my drive catching the down slope and the ball ran away into a burn.

Probably let these things get to me hence the doubles and triples rather than just bogey.

So to summarise, look for the positives in the round and take that away from the course.

Not the duff chips, slices off the tee and fat iron shots.

Oh, not to forgot those damn 3 putts :D
