Does the BBC get it?

Good on BBC for the wall to wall coverage but desperately yearning for anybody who can offer some interesting commentary. Get Faldo on once he's finished just to liven things up.

Great to be watching coverage on the Open Golf App with no adverts to interrupt coverage. Yes perhaps the commentators are a bit bland, but I tend not to let that bother me as it's about watching the golf.

My only gripe about the BBC is why they have to send so many reporters/presenters to events like the Open. It would seem that every station/channel wants to send their own staff. Seems to smack a bit like a "nice day" out at the expense of the BBC.

Pedant Alert!!!

So which Muppet at the BBC decided that when a player was level for the round they'd show that as PAR

Nobody but NOBODY talks of being par for round when they are level

It's hardly a BBC issue, every leaderboard I've ever seen for a golf tournament has players on Level Par shown as Par on the leadboard and on the pop up graphics on screen during TV coverage.

A wee link to the official Open Championship leaderboard, not the BBC version. Scroll down to all the players who've shot a 72 or are currently level Par...

I happened to hear this - Hardly a specialist golf journalist, he's the guy who does links on the radio - as I remember it he didn't say he'd won it three times - he said he didn't know, Evans said Watson had won it five time after someone had looked it up seconds later - Vassos also commented that he hadn't been watching when the player you mentioned had hit a cracking shot to four feet on the third - understandable as he hadn't started his golf shift for Radio 5 Live - he said he was preparing the 'Top ten tenuous' for Chris at the time.

Maybe you are hard of hearing? or less accurate than the BBC - check the iPlayer to see if I'm right :o

SKY had Manchester City playing Dundee United last Sunday - they didn't play them - does that mean SKY are rubbish too

As said above 'Haters gonna hate'
Dont know what you were listening to as Alexander did say he thought Watson had won the Open 3 times and Evans had to correct him, Evans asked him who played the shot that got the applause and Alexander didnt know.Dont be ridiculous suggesting he's hardly a Golf journalist so its ok!! He covers sport on Evans radio show on the BBC and was at the Open to discuss it for the show, good grief

Been watching it in between the hangover from hell after the racing and Quo last night. I've never been a fan of the BBC and said as much on here before. I don't think their commentators and on course coverage with the exception of Ken Brown who I think is exceptional, is any good. There has been numerous shots of cameramen looking at empty fairways as balls sail by.

At the end of day, it's the only place to watch it and so there's little point griping about it.

Very much enjoyed the coverage on BBC Radio 5 today while driving about for work. Banter was good it was obvious they were watching from the beside the players rather than just describing TV footage. Kept upto date with all the important goings on and the leader board regularly. Can't ask for more.

Then home and in HD on the TV and found it great with no commercials. Personally I could also listen to Alliss twitter on all day. I don't care if they describe something wrong or use the wrong term for something. As long as it communicates what happened then that enough.

Am I missing something, every scoreboard at every tournament all over the world shows the players as "Par", "Even" or "E". I don't recall seeing it displayed as "level" anywhere

Are there any highlights on tonight?

I've just looked through the radio times, and there is zip. Wimbledon has highlights every day, the open clearly not. There are other BBC channels showing zip, why can't they show some golf? May be it's on the red button? That's useless to me, as it's never in hd, and fuzzy vision on a 50" telly is dire.

Think the coverage today has been first class - on both the radio and telly, as well as the app.

Enjoy all the commentators - especially Ken.

Disagree about the commentators. Find the likes of Cotta and James irritating. Personally think Alliss' best days are behind him although for the most part was on form today (shame he thought Westwood had birdied the last when it was obvious it had gone in sand of the tee - they said so in commentary after the shot). Ken Brown head and shoulders all of them in the box and with his on course bits

Standard of commentary was dire! But apart from that coverage reasonably good for a broadcaster that covers golf for a handful of days a year.

Spot on.James is just an annoying prick who tries to be humorous when in reality he is as funny as a boil on your sack.

Highlights all online and red button.

No highlights show due to having dedicated a whole channel for 11 hours they have to put other program's on

Nothing on the red button and only snippets on line....eg Rory's round in 60 secs and Matteos birdie.....am I missing something somewhere?

This thread is unbelievable, they have had 11 hours of uninterrupted coverage, and people are moaning. The BBC have to cater for people who don't know that much about golf with it being an a network channel. I personally think they have the balance about right. People are moaning about camera shots etc, do you think the BBC employ specialist golf cameramen all year round? The answer is no, they employ the same guys who are covering the tour week in week out who are mostly all freelance.
Stop whining and just enjoy the coverage.

And there is no Mark Roe which has to be a winner.
