One still needs cash for tipping.

Doormen.
Restroom attendants.
Bellmen .
Valet car parkers.
Stuff like that.

For example, if you're at a bar or club,
you may have your tab held at the bar until you leave
and pay with a credit card.

But the same waitress might not be bringing your drink every time,
so you need to tip them immediately when they bring the drink.
Same with the waitresses who bring the complimentary drinks when you're in a sports book or casino.

Thus, especially if I'm on holiday, even though I'm not really making purchases with cash,
I always have a roll of fives because somebody always has his/her hand out.

That's about the last use for cash, though.

How very plebeian.
We behave more like royalty here and carry no cash.

And what does "on holiday" mean?
Is it the same as "on vacation"?
;)

That's what I get for trying to use your term...which I happen to like better.
I use it here in America as well.

I also get a kick out of how you think it's patrician
to stiff the poor working people!

We didn't get to rule nearly half the world by giving the ordinary people a fair deal. And just look at our miserable efforts to do so. What good has that done?

(I hope everyone can see that I'm being amusingly facetious. Either that or I'm hoping to work for the Daily Mail.)

Post WWII, you've been a far more socially progressive nation than we are.

You may not tip your doormen,
but your doormen have a National Health Service.
I think that's a bit more important.

At the time of the American Revolution,
Great Britain was easily the most powerful military force on the face of the planet.

I'm sure that your obviously half-assed effort to retain the American Colonies
is looked upon as definitely the right move today.

Well this week has proven most effective without a wallet

Leshuttle tickets Google pay
Car charging via octopus card linked to my account
Disney park / food passes on Mine and my wife's Google pay
All purchases done via Google pay (jointed card)
Toil roads done via a tag in the car. Will get debited end of the month

Took 22 euros with us for the week

Came home with 22 euros

All I carried in my bag with a battery pack incase we ran out of charge (never did)

I have a couple of cards, one to get cash out of our Spanish bank account, and one to get cash out of our English account. Mrs H uses her cards for most purchases. I always pay cash.

Is there a right way/wrong way? Personally, why can’t both ways be right?

Cant honestly remember the last time either having cash on me or paying anything with cash. Even holidays or abroad now just use Monzo. Couldn’t actually even tell you last time I used a physical card and not Apple Pay/phone.

Barbers was the last place I used to have to go and lift cash for a haircut, but even they switched to card payments about a year ago

Not really the point. More that it is now incredibly simple and easy to just carry a phone and crack on

Seamless and efficient use of tech

Cash for the chap who brings a dozen eggs to the house every two weeks.
Haven't paid for a haircut for about 30 years, but if I did need one... 👴
We still play for 50p each nine and £1 for the game. Makes sense to use coins.

I use whatever method suits at any given time. Not really bothered much.
I do find a few notes and a couple of coins weighs less than a smartphone and takes up less room in the pocket.

And is less attractive and visible to a certain element of society ;)
