I love having a proper half way house where you can have a bite to eat and a drink. In South Africa many clubs factor in a mandatory 20 minute break between nines. You can't just play through either unless you get permission from the marshal and pod there isn't anyone due on the tee for the next 5 minutes. At Sun City when you come off the 8th green a guy comes out with a menu and you choose your meal. You play the par 5 9th and it's there waiting for you when you enter the half way house. Wish it was like that here

Sorry but I'm with Hawkeye and the last thing I want to do if I am playing well is stop my flow, lose my rhythm and fall away. Yes we stopped at West Hill but that was a social game and to be fair the break did me good after a couple of ropey holes but in the main I'd rather keep moving. Yes I might get a warm drink in the pro shop in winter but that takes moments and I can drink it on the move

What about the majority if the time when you play badly :D time to collect your thoughts, get a plan together and take stock?

We have one that is open Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays. Just a hut for the starter and a girl from the club kitchen.
They sell bacon or sausage (or bacon & sausage!) rolls, tea, coffee and during the colder months, soup.

Nobody stops to eat or drink and it probably takes 2 minutes for a 4-ball to be served and on their way. Eat and drink walking down the fairway (or rough) after the tee shots on the 10th.

There's no option for sort of. We have 2 loops of 9 so use the 19th or the verandah (depending on the weather) to sell bacon, sausage or bacon & sausage rolls, soup, or squash, but there's no dedicated halfway hut as such.

As I remember and a welcoming cup of soup and sausage batch it was on a very cold morning.

Yes we have one and we use it every time we are playing an 18 hole game, it's called the clubhouse as it's a nine hole course!
Played on a few courses with them and use them whenever they are open. I don't think it slows down play that much if every group is using it and it's a nice break to have a chat with your playing partners or opponents if your playing a match. It's a friendly game that we play for fun even if it's a competition!

You're on the course for 4 hours, why do you need 10 minutes at the hut to chat?

Would you do that in a medal also?

The one at Bearwood is open all day every day - may miss the occasional late game. The norm is that everyone stops and has some drink and nosh if you want. The rule is that if you are stopped the group behind has the right to go straight on if they wish, but in the busy season - pretty much all morning everyday - nearly everyone stops.

We have one but there isn't anywhere to sit so people just buy whatever they want then eat it whilst walking down the 10th. This is in medals, so the speed of play isn't really interrupted.
Its only been open for a couple of seasons. It seems to do quite well and is definately a good addition to the club/course.

We don't have one and if we did I probably wouldn't use it much.
I like to keep going, to keep whatever rhythm I have intact.
That said, in social games, I'll stop if everyone else is. Camberley, Bearwood, West Hill, Blackmoor etc its conducive to the Company and the ambiance (ooh get me) but at our olace a round only takes 3 1/2 hours so its better to have a bite at the end...

It is possible to grab food and keep moving along in a good rhythm ?

Not sure why it's automatically assumed that grabbing a coffee or roll needs to include a ten min sit down

Just the pro shop and no hot food which is a result as the last thing I want to do half way round is wait for my playing partners to chow down on a bacon roll or whatever they might like. You really don't need to sit down or stop to eat during a round of golf, it really isn't that exhausting and upsets the rythm, especially if I'm playing well.

I appreciate I am in the minority on this but it really does bug me having to stop if the facilities are provided.
I don't stop because of exhaustion, I stop because I am hungry ! Fine if you start at 9.00 you get back just in time for lunch, but if you have a tee time at 11.00, I couldn't wait until 3.00 to eat. I suffer from migraines if I don't eat at regular times, so halfway huts can be very important to me.

Yes a decent halfway hut is all part of a good days golf to me. Perhaps I don't take golf as seriously as some.

Been playing Otley a few times recently and there halfway house is great. Very simple with big flask of hot water for tea/coffee, coldron of soup plus home made pies and rolls all for a quid to put in an honesty box. Very simple but great if you tee early and a bite to eat.

I'm surprised more clubs don't have halfway houses seems a very simple way of making a few quid off players during a round.

Totally agree, five minutes at most, usually the time it takes the group in front to get out of range. I find it a bit of a pain when the group behind don't stop, but everyone in front has. They just get right up behind you with no where to go. Very inconsiderate some golfers.

What if the group was already out of range, would you still stop for 5 minutes-ish allowing the group behind to catch-up?

Which rule is that Paul?

same deal in medals and other comps

Hmm, interesting....
