That's an interesting comment, due to my newness to the game, I assume your suggesting that it doesn't matter if the comps are qualifying or not, rules are rules and if they can amend or ignore them or use common sense for non-qualifiers, there's no argument then for it not be used for qualifiers? If I raised this I think we'd end up with nothing all the time

Exactly, their being rather hypocritical by picking and choosing when they want to implement it. They should do one thing or the other IMO.

Of course it is, hence the fact that the majority of clubs keep their halfway huts open for qualifying rounds. Apart from Fish's place I have never heard of a course specifically closing theirs, though there may be some more.

I suspect that most clubs are oblivious to the rule anyway

Only in golf could you have a heated debate and dispute over whether you can stop for a bacon sarnie. Well done golf, well done.....

But then only golfers (or at least some) feel the need to fill their faces with bacon sarnies whilst actually playing their game. At least in other sports there is a specific interval defined in the rules.
In the case of golf the rules are quite clear; play should be continuous.

It's what's great about the game. I would like the next innovation in the game to be thirdway huts.;)

IF you play at Amanda/Phillys course Brampton Park their "halfway hut" iS based after the 6th green but is also a stones throw from the 13th (if memory serves me right). Maybe a course ahead of its time Richard ;)

Q.
May a player, between the play of two holes, enter the clubhouse or a “half-way house” to obtain a refreshment if he then proceeds immediately to the next tee and consumes the food and/or drink while continuing his round?

A.
Yes. A player may enter the clubhouse or a half-way house without penalty (see Note to Rule 6-8a). However, the player must not unduly delay either his own play or that of his opponent or any other competitor (Rule 6-7).

It's the one exception isn't it. If the 10th is clear then you can't stop if it causes any sort of delay. If you're waiting for the group in front, then knock yerself out with a full English Barm. Most sensible courses would just put up a sign saying this and leave it at that, but Robin's course appears to have taken it out of the Golfers hands. Maybe they're just a shifty looking bunch at Kenilworth.

Note, Moortown had this exact solution. A big sign telling you the rule. It also had an honesty box which contained at least a few hundred quid. Now that treats golfers with respect...

Fully aware this, and it refers back to the 2 rules I have listed earlier. The key as I have stated is, if the coast (next tee) is clear, you shouldn't stop and wait for something to be cooked, it has to be off the shelf so you can walk on and not delay yourself as well as others, as we did at your club by pre-ordering and then ate whilst at the 10th whilst everyone tee'd off. Those that order and wait, or stand or even sit at the hut and fully consume food & drink when the next tee is clear, are in breach of the rules.

Have probably breached this rule 50+ times in the past at previous clubs and personally wouldnt hesitate to do so again (if current club had a halfway hut). I get that this will incite the "if you break this rule what other rules are you breaking crowd" but at the end of the day golf is a hobby for us and even a club comp is not that serious imo. Bit of common sense and as long as you dont cause other groups an issue then so be it imho

Voice of reason. I especially like the hobby bit and club competitions. Some take it far too seriously and don't seem to get a lot of enjoyment out of the game, unless they have shot a personal best gross score.

You can't make up a local rule that breaks the rules of golf unless the R&A have permitted such a local rule (as they have with DMDs)

I'm not concerned about it, I didn't even know it was a rule but since it is, it shouldn't be broken no matter how daft it may seem.

Your first sentence is self-contradictory!

What has happened is that an Exception has been specified as part of the Rule. The exception to allow a Local Rule (depending upon whether a Committee wants to or not) is part of the Rule.

I'm also not keen on stopping, as it interrupts any flow, but will stop if it's there. A cup of Tea or Soup is normally all I need.

Unless a group drops a hole, play has to be delayed anyway - purely because the half-way hut acts, time-wise like another hole.

I always stop.

Good hallway huts: Bearwood, Sunningdale, West Hill, St Georges Hill, Woburn (Marquess) and Hindhead to name a few that stand out.

:D I re-wrote that bit about 4 times to try to make it make sense and still failed  Hopefully you know what I meant?
