Ok, so after a round in somewhat frozen conditions , and partially no defrosting all day the scores wasnt exactly personal bests to say the least, but one shot that will bring me back was my apprach to the 18th.

SI10 par4 dog leg right about 460 if i remember right, lake down the right of the fairway, lake down the left of the fairway, and a pretty strong a blustery right to left wind, bunkers left of the green and a bunker front right, the opening to the green is about 30ft/35ft wide, pin cut tight to the front about 8 ft on. A pretty average drive with a bit of right to left sees my drive stop up on the left just short of the lake. with the left to right wind ive now got to flirt with the right hand lake (hoping the wind brings it back) which is also bring the right hand greenside bunker right into play. ive decided the shot is to put it out at the right bunker and pray the wind dont drop, a quick look at the GPS and ive got 210 to the front. knowing the ground is still pretty firm from the overnight frost, i pull a 4i, no practice swipe as i dont want to waste a gooden, get my line, settle over the ball and wallop... and absolute peach. It takes off like a misile... soring bang on target and as it reaches peak flight while being online for the bunker... cue wind! it brings it in nicely and it had a nice little roll on as planned to 6ft from the pin.

To say my round had ups and downs is an understatement. me (12) and my partner (14 and very experienced) got stuffed 6&5 on the match, lost the front 6 down at the turn, and only just won the back 9 to save a £1, we go stuffed by two mates both off 25, but when i was down beat , cold, and questioning why i even got out of bed, this little beauty has me begging to get back on the course..

So who else had a little ray of sunshine in the form of that shot of the day today.

If your going to hit one right out of the top drawer... Then your last full shot of the round is as good as time as any to do so...

Didn't play today... But aside from striking my new driver well yesterday the rest of my game was pretty mediocre... But like yourself saved my best to last... A seven wood from about 175yds just making it to the front of the green... Well pleased :)...

couldnt agree more, after a dire round and a royal shafting, the last shot is without doubt the ideal time to rip a corker, just a shame the putt bobbled on a frozen green and lipped for a birdie.:whoo:

Went to the range today. Tried the new positive Homer to the limit. On the plus side I know where I'm going wrong and so looking forward to rectifying the issue in the week. I had an eagle yesterday albeit on a shortened par 5. The approach was an ugly low running hook after a great drive (even beating Hawkeye off the tee) but I guess its all about substance over style (my new mantra for 2012).

I've given up worrying on the course when it isn't going well and plan to keep swinging as I've been shown and trust myself that it'll come good. Followed the eagle yesterday with a great drive down the 16th and a sublime 5 iron that fizzed off the club to within 8 feet. I hadn't struck the ball well per se but those two shots (one a bit iffy and one as pure as I can hit it) confirmed that I'm making progress even if the scores and handicap don't show it yet

as i said to someone in our group today homer, there will be days you hit the ball like a twonk and score well, and there will be days that you hit the ball like a god and struggle to score. take the positives, process the negatives.

Very true OS.

If I could have been somewhere near mediocre with a putter yesterday I would have been, at most, level par for the round.

But there are days when I am hitting it like a tool and end up with a good score. Thems the breaks I suppose

Sorry, to answer your question any of a number of iron or wedge approaches, was hitting everything out of the middle yesterday.

I have striped every thing all weekend. Have hardly hit a poor shot in three rounds. no reward, as the course has been frozen, but happy to be swinging well.

Similar conditions here yesterday OS

Frozen tee matts, playing off matts on fairways into frozen temp greens = crap golf.

To answer your question. My tee shot on the second (289 yd, Par 4) 5 wood off the tee leaving a soft wedge to the (temp) green.

Whether I go back next week depends if it's thawed or not :mmm:

2nd shot into our 5th . Par 4 dogleg to the left. Nice pitching wedge distance, but didn't realise that the green was frozen solid. Hit it and looked really nice, but instead of stopping dead, it bounced 10ft in the air and went 50 yards further than I expected. My playing partners were in fits :D

Hit an 8 iron second shot into our par 5 18th pitch mark (hole) bout 6" from the pin ,, ball went just off the back of the green but great strike to compliment the drive ,happy days

2nd shot to a par 4. 177 to the flag but frozen greens and anything at the green on the ground would run right to left and end up in the rough. Hit a 4 iron that never got more than 10' off the ground and only went about 120 in the air. Started it at the flag and moved it to the right to run up and over a mound short right of the green then used the slope to run round on the green to about 10'.

No, I didn't make the putt.
