Did Dustin Johnson blow it?

They both blew it, Jordan was lucky that DJ did what he did, I would argue JS didn't win it himself but DJ handed it to him.

In a similar mould to Lee Westwood at Turnberry in 2009(?) where I believe a 2 putt on the last would have eventually seen him win the Open after a play off.

exactly, having watched the re run last night there were many poor shots not only putts by most of them DJ missing green wildly with 8 and 9 irons on consecutive holes wont of help.... but ultimately the 3 putt on the last is what will be remembered the same as the penalty at the USPGA at whistling straits.

he took an extremely long time over the first putt which suggested uncertainty and eventually when he asked the caddy all the caddy said was it is a feel putt or something along those lines. He was not given a confident read by his caddie and not being sure of it himself either it led to the inevitable.

This is what I saw

Like I said I would have suggested "hit the putt absolutely dead weight, if it goes in you're US Open champion, if not you've got one you can't miss" I might have even helped him with the line if I was a talented caddy.

True what someone said though, maybe he DID hit the putt dead weight... but just got it wrong.

Did his caddie help him line up the 4ft return putt? I can't remember but it did seem over very quickly.

The difference with Westwood is that he thought he needed a birdie with Watson in the middle of the fairway, he wasn't in the last group like DJ.

They all blew it, Spieth included, but one of them had to win. You can't say that some bottled it and another showed great courage, because they all screwed up one way or another.
You might even argue that making double on a par 3 with half an acre left of the hole is an even bigger mistake.

DJ is fast becoming one of my favourite players. I think it said a lot about him that he went to find Jordan to congratulate him, and 2 minutes later was smiling with his family.

I agree completely
Class act in my book.
Looking forward to some good golf with this talented group of young golfers on the scene.

Having sat through the highlights I think Johnson blew it but to be fair that putt on 18 was tough. Shame as he'd seem certain to win at one point but someone had to win. I think a play off between the two would have been interesting

Nerves got DJ on the 2nd putt, you could see the whole change in his facial expression and body language after he missed the first. Not sure he bottled it, you don't hit the drive and 2nd shot he did if you bottle it. Did Speath bottle it my taking a 5 on the par 3 when he hit the front? Nope, he just hit a bad iron and probably downto nerves.

As for some of the comments on this thread, we do like to kick a man when he's down don't we.

When Johnson's ball went to the back of the green I was sure it would roll back to the hole stone dead. Only ball I saw all day stick at the back of the green. Knew it would be a really quick putt, that if it didn't go in was going to roll a nasty distance past. Not a very good second putt though, uphill and he dribbled it at the hole.:mmm:

Having just watched it on You Tube his facial expressions tell me he was bricking it.
Not just bricking it either. Absolutely terrified.
Almost as bad as Tom Watsons putt for the Open in 2009.

To be fair to DJ, he hardly touched the ball for the first putt and it rolled 15 feet? However, the second putt was made with no confidence at all. He's blown it more than once now, so the scars are building up.

As tricky as the first putt was, any Tour Pro, especially one of the stature of DJ, 3 putting from 12 feet is a blow up.
Of course, if it had been closer, maybe someone might have given him it...........

Did he throw it away... or did his caddy?

My advice would have been to hit the putt absolutely dead weight, if it goes in you're US Open champion, if not you've got one you can't miss. His caddy was WEAK in my opinion allowing him to hit it way too hard and have a missable return putt.... after seeing Jason Days putt roll 4ft by just moments before I can't believe he hit it that hard.

Who will catch the fishy on the little lishy......
