ESPN's senior golf writer Jason Sobel tweeted yesterday that "Golf Twitter gonna break tomorrow." in reference to an announcement (or two) that is going to be big news. Looking likely that it could be a few things.

According to SecretTourPro Dustin Johnson was spotted today trying out the new range of Nike equipment and looks set to leave TaylorMade in favour of Nike.

The second rumoured announcement is that Tiger is going to announce his intentions to make his return to competitive golf at The Players. Pretty exciting news. He's back playing and hitting balls and all rumours currently suggest that he's going to be at Sawgrass later in the year.

Both pretty big announcements - so I guess we'll have to wait and see!

I always wonder how much money talks in reference to players switching clubs. Obviously any of the brands would pay them very well, so would the final decision be on how well they play with the clubs?

Or, if say Nike are offering him an amount he cannot refuse, his thought is that he will have to get used to them due to the money!?

Big news if it is either or both of these announcements, and like him or hate him, Tiger is a huge talking point and it would be good to see him back. He's the reason i started watching Golf.

Dustin's potential announcement is the bigger of the two IMO.

Can't help but wonder his reason(s) for wanting away from TMAG, cash aside.

Tiger returning. Meh.

Tiger returning. Meh.

DJ hasn't closed the deal in a major with TM equipment, so rather than considering he just isn't a closer, he can blame his clubs, change and get a wad of cash while he is at it.

As for Tiger returning, meh too. Maybe he should also book in a date in the short term to announce his next 'time off'.

TBH I really don't find any announcement about a player changing clubs all that big a deal. What effect is it going to have on anything?

As for Tiger 'Frank Sinatra' Woods comeback.........haven't we been there and done that already?

100% agree ... I don't give a rat's ass who is playing what on tour or which logo they have on their polo shirts. Are there really people (apart from the marketing department of the companies involved) who consider that news?

Tiger playing would be more newsworthy in my opinion, but I don't find that groundshaking either.

No offence meant to any DJ fans, but I don't think him changing supplier is golf twitter breaking worthy. Tigers more interesting, but it's no secret he's working towards that and a return to action so again, exciting but not twitter breaking worthy.

Not sure what would validate Sobels statement - something like a major star saying they're gay or Spieth announcing he's retiring!

DJ changing clubs is hardly Twitter breaking news. Who gives a stuff.
And a pro's equipment choice is almost 100% financially motivated.

It will be Tiger related, like it or not a story about tiger is the only thing big enough in golf to cause a Twitter meltdown.

Just been reading that. Pretty interesting insight into the man. I don't think that's the news though, I think we're going to hear something from Tiger today - either retirement or his return.

It is a really well written interesting article. Puts some of Tiger's self-destructive behaviour and SEAL obsession in context. But it is also very clear that he is done as a top tier golfer.

The SEAL stuff is absolutely crazy. Doing 8 mile runs in full military gear, jumping out of planes unassisted, the 'white noise' tests sound insane, getting battered by paintballs clearing houses and the martial art training, all crazy things for a top athlete to be doing between competitions. Seems like he's a bit of a strange guy, completely different from the public perception. He's socially awkward, an introvert that tries incredibly hard to maintain his privacy but is also deeply caring about his family, a fantastic father and has obvious regrets about his actions that led to the break-up of his marriage. A real sad story, but a story that strangely makes me like him even more. I really hope he returns healthy, manages to win one last major and retires content with his achievements. I don't want him to go out on a negative note.

But he also has no empathy with people. The incident where the multi-millionaire Tiger had lunch with a few SEALs and they got separate bills shows no sense of awareness of who he was compared to them, likewise the indiscretions with multiple women shows no regard for his wife.

Yeah, very true. The lunch incident with the SEALs was very bizarre. Why he wouldn't just take the cheque I do not know. He's a strange guy, a lot of it stems from his Father though it seems, they're very similar people. Tiger also never seems to have found a coping mechanism for overcoming the death of his father; the SEAL training obviously didn't work. The insomnia, the sleeping pill addiction, the women, the struggle when it came to returning to practice, he's really struggled to overcome that.

Are either of those really big news? Who cares if a player changes clubs and Tiger was bound to return at some point

I agree with you.

The only Tiger related news that could be considered big would be if he announced that, despite the reports of his ongoing recovery, he won't play professional golf ever again.

Now THAT would break twitter.

Blueinmunich and I have decided not to call a press conference to announce our return to the game given the negative responses on this thread!!
