Darts

I’m not a great darts fan…but watched the Littler 9-darter (yesterday?) and, yes, there is something rather thrilling about something that takes under 30s to execute so perfectly.

Not sure but up until 2 years ago you wouldn't know as it was not a mainstream sport which got column inches. Say what you like about the Nuke, but he has made darts more newsworthy.
Watched the darts a fair bit back in the Jocky Scott days...rather different game now though - or is it...?

Around that time was Bobby George, Phil Taylor and maybe a few others that I am struggling to remember but then there was a famine of 'household' names that were known by non darts fanatics. That seems to be changing nowadays.

Add in Bristow, Lowe for certain. They were definitely the top two for ages and the media made a rivalry out of it. Bobby George should have won more. Cliff Lazarenko, Leighton Rees were also pretty well known (again arguably underachieved)

It's the same game but played at a much higher standard.

Saying that, it's like all sports through time. Take those players from back then, give them the current work ethic, ability to concentrate full time on the sport, they would be near the top now as well. (for other sports you would throw in the advances in sport science but I don't think that applies with darts)
