So now we have the Bully XL to be banned after recent events.
Whilst I agree most are probably a nice animal, I do question why you would want something that can be so detsructive . But, is it something that shoudl be banned, when it seems most attcks are form dogs off the lead in public.
How about another way, albeit one that won't be liked....and thats ban all dogs from being off the lead unless on private land, with the penalty of destruction if caught off the lead.
I have had 2 rescue Staffies, neither of which I walked off the lead. They were both attacked when out by "nice dogs" all of which were off their leads, and none of the owners took the responsibility for their dogs actions.
Fortunately, the only serious injury was my first rescue, and she suffered puncture wounds to her neck from a Jack Russell cross, the lady owner not even bothered by the blood on my dog.

So is it time we banned dogs from being off the lead unless on private land?
Yes I agree.
I would go one further and say all dogs must be muzzled in public.

I was attacked by a dog when I was five, had to have plastic surgery to my cheek. ( on my face)
They scare the crap out of me especially the big ones.

arrogant owners really get me I have asked them “ please keep your dog away from me”
but they just reply “ oh he’s ok he won’t hurt you” that’s not the point!

Just for a little perspective...

70 million people in the UK.
600 people per year murdered.
Chances of being murdered this year approx 1 in 117,000

11 million dogs in the UK.
10 people per year killed by dogs.
Chances of being killed by a dog this year approx 1 in 7,000,000
Chances of any particular dog being a killer approx 1 in 1,100,000.

You are 60 times more likely to be killed by another human than by a dog.

I don’t know ask him!

Why does any dog chase a man down and rip his throat out.?
Waiting until after the event is to late!

I bet the family of the guy killed this week are asking similar questions.
Well no he wouldnt. Hes well trained , socialised and a big softy. I agree plenty of owners who really shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a dog but don't tar all dogs and owners with the same brush.

With bullys it's not the owners.. even good owners can be caught out by their sudden switches

Cattle kill about the same number of people as dogs do.
Ban cows?

Do they kill people in their own homes?

As far as I can see several of the deaths have taken place on private premises, others from dogs who have escaped from private premises and others from dogs who have been on leashes but have escaped.
Having a law requiring dogs to be on leash does nothing to protect many of the serious injuries and plenty to punish dogs who are responsibly exercised.

I ask most of them to stay away from me as well.

But if your ever attacked by a dog no stats can erase the fear!

I was attacked by a GSD as a child and bitten by a poxy spaniel of all things. Hasn't put me off owning my own GSD and now 2 rescues.but I understand not everyone wants a dog approaching them so I only allow that if they ask. My Frenchie always gets a lot of attention, the Romanian not so much.

I have a fear of dogs !
so unless you have been hospitalised by one you can’t convince me it’s well trained.
I treat them all the same for a reason!

Statistically, you are 3 times more likely to drown in your bathtub (in your own home) than to be killed by a dog.
Ban baths?
