Along with my golfing partner we entered the Golf Clubs Foursome Competition in October which we won by 3 or 4 shots. Neither of us had played this form of the game before and to be fair apart from 3 miss putts from about 5 foot and one fat fairway shot we actually played quite well with a net score score of 6 under par.

Well yesterday I got the news that we have been entered into the Daily Mail Nationwide Foursome Competition as our clubs representatives.

Has anyone played in this event?

not played it yet fred, althought im hoping to be on the team. The clubs first game is against banstead downs on the 29th and is a home game ;) who you playing for?

Played in this event three years ago.

Got through 5 rounds with my partner and we did have a lot of fun.

Played one nice course but two goat tracks in between home games.

There are a lot of rounds to play so don't get your hopes up to much, just enjoy playing a match against other clubs better foursomes offerings.

Home draws are a huge advantage and any away wins deserve a good pat on the back. It's never easy to beat people around their own track.

You do get a free practise round for all away games which are worth using to get a feel for places.

Good luck.

simple biscuits, when i was younger (around 14-16) i used to caddy alot at weekends so was more up on rulings then. Once i got into it full time at 16 and played more. All of my comps have either been matchplay, Strokeplay or stapleford. So greensomes, foursomes, texus scrambles etc my memory has got a little rusty.

gonna have to refresh my knowledge on foursomes ruling

Not a lot to it, alternate shots, one player drives odds one evens. ;)

1. Player A knocks it out of bounds. Who hits the next shot?

2. Is player A allowed to give player B (their partner) advice on line and club selection?

3. Player A hits the trolley belonging to player B. Any
penalty?

4. Do both players need to sign the card?

5. If player A marks the ball on the green, can player B replace it?

etc
etc
etc ;) :p

1. Player C
2. Only if they play the same clubs and hit the same
distance.
3. £5 to a charity of choice.
4. Only if their signatures are small enough to fit in the
box.
5. Only if they are still talking.

They were simple Bob, any hard ones ?

;)

played a couple of times in this.one year we won the first round away to guys of similar handicaps but then lost at home to a couple of single figure players at home.
Really enjoyed the experience of something different though.
As the first rounds are local, its definitely worth trying to get a round in first at a course if your away. Talk nicely to the pro at the other course and tell him why you are going and you might get a reduced fee or courtesy round.

Regarding the rules, I remember that me and my partner qualified won year ahead of a pair by one shot after one of them had walked up and knocked his own missed putt in himself incurring a penalty.
Enjoy the experience ;)

Do you want the amateur answer or Pro answer??

The Pro answer is.......call for a ruling. ;)

I've done this a couple of times , got through into the regionals once and was 5 up with 7 to play. Lost the 12th to go 4 up and the guys said if we'd halved the hole they would have quit cos we were right by the clubhouse. You guessed it , we lost the match on the last. It was a very long journey home with not much conversation. Mind you it was about 15 years ago now and i've gotten over it....
