Hi folks, hope we are all well.

I have recently started to notice that im not hitting the ball as high as my mates or others at the range, so I have been playing around on some online custom fitting sites (like ORKA Golf one) nearly all have come back that my clubs are between 0.25 – 0.5 inch to long apart from that they are fine (they are Wilson Staff Di7).

I thought I was “custom fitted” at a Golf store near me, however, from reading the glowing report and in depth analysis you guys have received from golf stores I am feeling a bit ripped off.

Any way back to the subject, do you think my clubs being a little too long are what’s making me hit the ball too low.

0.25-0.5 inches seems to minute an amount to make a huge difference in my eyes. I may be wrong as of course I am not a clubmaker/fitter.

Certain irons have a higher launch than other anyway. I found that when I tried the X20's that they had a very high launch compared to the MX19's I tried.

Maybee that could be the reason, haven't tried the Wilsons myself.

Hi Hywel.

3 things:

Firstly don't compare your 7 iron to a friends., The Di7's are all a club stronger than they say. A 7 iron is really a 6 (this is why they say they are longer than other club makes). This being the case your 7 iron will fly lower - 6 iron height.

Secondly, grip down the shaft 1/2 inch and see what happens. If the flight height increases there's your answer. I expect you'll possibly hit the ball better as you'll have a bit more control over the club.

Thirdly, ball position. Further forward in stance = lower flight. Further back = higher height.

have fun experimenting, and remember it's how many strokes to get the ball in the hole, not how the ball looked getting there.

John.

try Gripping down on the club and hit a few shots see if there is any difference. More than likely it is your swing not the equipment!

I know exactly what you mean johng, we all discovered that fact on here a while ago when we were ranting about lie angle + loft. The whole advertising scheme is the biggest con ever (apart from the K1, F.A.S.T irons, Alien wedge etc)

I will try gripping down a little the next time at the range, cant believe I didn't think of doing it myself!

Thanks guys

HTL, had a similar problem with Di7s not being properly fitted by a well known golf store. Problem is that they are, appartently, a pain in the neck to adjust in any way and very few will even look at adjusting the lie. These places are happy just to shove you out the door having taken your money.
