Custom fit at the Belfry and results - Help pls!

I went from graphite to the Nippon NS Pro 950GH Regular. Just right for me, and my swing speed with a 6 iron was about 86.

didn't you also say you were using range balls at the Belfry? If so relative distances between the old (on course) and new (on range) are a waste of breath, er ink, er ?

These guys are trained to provide the best fitting and your mate, knowlegable as he may be isn't. He didn't see you swing and doesn't have access to the launch monitor data. These guys know what is going to work for you. Trust them. When you've duffed your mate up and taken the money ask him the question about what works best again

The Belfry use Nike balls on the range.

My mate didn't say get stiff shafts (well he sort of did) he just thought I should be and suggested going for another fitting somewhere else. He didn't suggest stiff without another custom fit.

I wasn't just going to go against the custom fit.

Either way, you've had the custom fit and the stiff shafts didn't work as well for you as the regular, so what's the point of having another custom fit just to confirm the same thing?

If it had just been a pro making suggestions without you trying the clubs then I'd agree you should have a custom fit, but you've actually hit the clubs yourself, so you know first hand which ones worked best for you, so why would you go against that? It isn't logical (captain).

Only been playing for a couple of years so it's all a bit new - sometimes you do listen to your mates who have been playing for years.

I've been playing for longer than you've been alive but I know f*%^ all about custom fitting, which is why I wouldn't be offering the sort of advice your mate is.

But am glad some of you have confirmed I should just go with the recommendation.

No, you shouldn't, you should go with the setup that felt the best and produced the best results.

I'd put a little more weight on the "feel" part as well, when I got custom fitted I tried a number of different brands of club, there was one, can't remember what it was now, that went a little further than the X-20 Tours I chose but they just felt like a lump of lead in my hands, whereas the Tours felt as smooth as butter, really confidence inspiring, you can't underestimate how important that is.

Totally agree about the feel - The Mizunos had a very similar dispersion than the AP1s but the AP1s felt amazing when I made a good contact and pretty damn good even when I didn't. The Mizunos didn't have the same feel and just felt ordinary - shame the jpx aren't forged and I couldn't hit the jpx pros.

Cheers

Just to show you need to listen to the fitter, I had a 6 iron swing speed of 84 with the shaft optimizer but the rest of my swing pointed to stiff shafts. If we'd gone on swing speed alone I have regulars in.
Go with the Pro
