Could you live without golf?

Nope couldn't live without it. I enjoy the game too much, much more than I have any other sport I've played before. I hate not being able to get out much and always look forward to watching the golf on the TV or getting GM through the post to read about it.

Hating it at the moment that I have injured my back and can't get out this weekend for a game when it's looking like the best weather for a few weeks.

At my age I'm glad I can still do 18 holes comfortably - many of my peers see the turf from the other side :ooo:

Very good way of looking at it. in fact, probably the best. Being on top of the grass is always preferable to a buried lie.

I would get bored very easily without it. I still have cricket but if I can't play golf , I could not see be being able to play cricket either. I go and watch a lot of local football so could go to more away games , I suppose.

Right now I'd say yep no problem. I haven't played for a while and I'm not really missing it, but as soon as the weather and courses improve and I'm back out loving it again the answer might be different.

You keep enjoying your rest for another 3-4 weeks, before we renew our pairs match at Fairhaven. Are you listening in Junior? Nailed on.:D

In the right circumstances I probably could, but hope that I dont fall out of love with the game, or have to stop it. I was a bit like that years ago when going to most LFC away matches - I thought if I wasnt doing this, I'd end up in Asda or B&Q on a saturday afternoon, or doing something equally as boring.

I was considering giving up 5-a-side footy about 2 years ago as went through 2 months of not enjoying it (mainly as we had to play on the bigger astro-turf pitch which was too big a pitch). Ive rekindled my love for it in the last year or so, and will stick with it for the time being.

Golf can be a game for life, and hopefully it will be.

If I did stop, I'd either do a lot more rambling/walking and might start a history degree, as I would have to fill a lot of time up (I play 3 times a week for 7-8 months a year).

err yeh of course, its a game, i have not played for 18 months, i could play tomorrow if i wanted. sometimes real life gets in the way and you have to prioritise. Will i play again, yeh probably quite soon. would i die if i didnt? of course not.

I love my golf, played on and off since I was about 4 years old one way or another, much more off than on in fairness other than the odd game a year.

Now I'm a member of a club where I've made a lot of good friends over the last few years and love playing my golf there, also met the NW mafia through this place and it's a great escape from other things you have to deal with in life for me.

All that said, I would walk away tomorrow and not hit another ball if I needed to, more important things to me than golf, if they were likely to suffer or needed more of my time, then golf would give way no bother. Obviously I'd prefer that not to be the case but golf isn't a priority for me in the grand scheme of things. Probably why I've never taken it very seriously.

Scott, don't let me forget to send you the map of how to get to the 13th at Hankley.

Out of season so from November to end of March when course can be on a lot of temps and pretty wet I dont really miss it.
But from March to Sept/Oct Im not sure I could live without. Im involved with rugby at weekends so with no rugby May to September I would be quite bored> i dont particularly enjoy watching golf on Tv but practising and playing fills the hole so to speak and I can get out before of after work.

I think the better question is "could you live without something to dedicate your time to?" A lot of people saying they could live without golf in their life, but then they say they will just replace it with something else. I think we all need something to fill out spare time with, I couldn't become someone that just goes to work and sits infront of the idiot box everyday.

I need something to look forward to at the end of the working week. I'm sat here now anticipating who I will get drawn with in the Sunday morning roll up. Fingers crossed it's the superstar, as he's back from the mini tour he's playing on through the winter in Florida.

I'm sat here wondering how many layers and what I'll need to wear in Saturdays comp in the sleet & snow 😞❄☃️

Could I live without it, I seriously doubt it, as a hobby it just takes up so much of my time & thoughts even when not on the course. I think I'd go doolally and the impact on the family/friends would hardly be positive either

Not really loving it if I'm honest. Can gladly live without it.
Had Wednesday off this week, weather was okay, not too cold and not a hint of breeze, ideal day to play at Cooden.
Painted the garden shed instead.
Can't be arsed.

I probably could but I sure as heck don't want to.....
But come the day when I physically can't swing anymore I'd need to find something else and bowls would most likely fit the bill
My FiL started bowls when he was 65, about 17 years ago....Plays 3 times a week into his 80's....

No golf to play but in last 24 hours alone I’ve:
• Updated handicaps
• Mailed club captain
• Mailed another golf course
• Arranged transport to this weekend’s golf
• Made sure I have clean gear for Saturday golf
• Thought about what hole I’ll get drawn for the shotgun start and which green we’ll play to on 18th
• Sorted a stay over for later this month around another golf day
• Stretched a new glove that’s a little tight while watching TV (yeah I know how sad that reads)
• Been on GM forum several times
• Watched about 4 hours of golf on TV

And probably thought about playing and WITB for this weekend several more times in-between

So as I said earlier, I doubt I could live without it and stay sane!
