On the flipside. If all holding or blocking was taken out, the game could become a breeding ground for lump it in the box teams.
Is that really what we want?

Time some cards were given for surrounding the ref and appealing for cards too

Unbelievable!
We should turn a blind eye to the holding and wrestling as it will help promote skilful football. Really!!
What about the skill in defending i.e. watch your man not the ball, keep goalside of him etc; ?
By all means we want to see flair players but not if it means condoning the likes of Shawcross, Skirtl, Smalling et al.
its just a thought. if it became too easy to score from set plays then yes, football could easily gravitate towards big bruiser set piece teams doing well.
important words in bold.
why try and play tidy football if there is a good chance you will score a couple if goals from set plays?
I would leave it as it is and ask refs to look out for the obvious infringements. a bit of pushing and shoving never did anyone a bit of harm. back in the day you could put the ball, keeper and all into the net. now you cant breath on the keeper without committing a foul.
Not since the late '50s has it been legal to shoulder- charge the keeper in the way you describe. If you want to see "pushing and shoving" I would suggest you would be best advised to watch rugby.
Quality defenders rarely if ever find it necessary to resort to such tactics.
In any event it is not that easy for teams to score from set plays if referees apply the rules equitably upon both attackers and defenders. After all "big bruising"" attacking is just as much in breach of the rules.
