Sturridge out for around 4 games thanks to the international break. Apparently after the Norway game he requested to sit out of training, but this got refused and now he out for at least 4 games. So because England just had the Switzerland game in mind, they made him train, he got injured and not only missed the Switzerland game but Liverpool are now without him too.

Is this just not another example of why footie fans favour their club over country? If Sturridge was feeling a twinge in training at Liverpool he would not have been made to carry on and maybe even been rested in the next game to give him adequate recovery time. Instead of him missing one game he is now going to be missing at least 4 thanks to the attitude of the England coaching team.....😡

Rogers was quite vocal the other day. He said all Liverpool players have their own warm down regimes worked out (something about Suarez not training the next day) and so if Sturridge was following what the club had advised there does seem to be a club v conflict building

Perfect example of why it will always should be club first for the players - they pay the players way in life.

We have lost an important player because of the poor management of our player under England management team and all because of friendly. The disregard of the clubs by the FA about the players is unacceptable

Or maybe it was poor communication by the Liverpool coaching staff not informing England how Sturridge warms down.

We didn't even need him anyway.

Apparently Sturridge was heartbroken about missing the Switzerland game. Obviously takes pride playing for his country. Just the way it should be.
All teams loose players due to picking up injuries for club or whilst on international duty, but Rogers has strengenthed the squad so shouldn't be a problem.

Apparently Sturridge tried speaking to them to request sitting out, but got to carry on training.

I don't doubt that the players want to play for England, but when the players questions his training schedule then the coaching staff should listen. His training regime has been set up by the Liverpool coaching staff who deal with the players day in day out.

Sorry, but it's country before club every time!

Sturridge cost £12m, plus he has got a £20m 5 year contract, so is going to cost the club £30m and that is not taking into account all the time and effort it takes to keep these players in top condition.

Do you know this for a fact?

I heard Rodgers say faster players at Liverpool don't train the day after a game. So how come Sterling was ok then? Sounds to me like he's looking for someone to blame.

Jovetic,Costa & Ramsey also injured whilst on international duty.

I know that is all part of football, but it just appears that this injury could have been prevented by following the fitness and training regime that has been developed by the people that always work with him. If it is correct that Sturridge requested to miss training and they ignored him then this injury is almost certain not to have happened as it was during that remaining session.

But surely all clubs would request that their players miss training sessions to avoid injury.
If he's fit to go play for his country then he should train IMO.
No manager likes to loose players, especially whilst on international duty. Just looks like Brenda wants his players wrapping up in cotton wool.

Its football, not pillow fighting!! Players get injured in training at club level.

I'm in the country first every time camp. Or on reflection... if it was the choice of Middlesbrough getting promotion back into the Premiership or losing out because their top player missed 4 games due to an injury the received whilst on international duty.

i dont think it is so much special treatment for certain players, but a player that is susceptible to thigh injuries is rested the day after playing for obvious reasons.

this is taken from the Mirror..

The player and the Reds are left frustrated and angry, because he made clear to national team boss Roy Hodgson that he should have undertaken nothing more than light recovery work that day as part of a plan scientifically tailored by Anfield experts.

Instead, Sturridge was put through a testing session configured around sprint training, and damaged thigh muscles - after warning it could happen.
The Kop manager specifically plots individual programmes for his players based on each man's unique physical make-up, and Sturridge has a detailed schedule which acknowledges that, as an explosive player, he can be vulnerable to muscle injuries.

Yet when the 25-year-old reminded the England staff of the tailored plan, his words fell on deaf ears, and while Rodgers refused to condemn the national team coaches, he did explain Liverpool never follow a general training programme.

Rodgers said: “The 48 hours after the game is critical for recovery.

"Here, we look at the individual player. Daniel is fast, he’s dynamic and his recovery is individualised – so to pick up the injury when he did was disappointing.

“Think of Daniel’s week last week. He plays a high level game at Tottenham on the Sunday, performs arguably one of his best games ever for Liverpool, then meets up with the England squad on Monday - a recovery day.

“Then he played a second game on the Wednesday, recovered Thursday. On the Friday, that would be active recovery for us. But from images I’ve seen, he’s actually sprinted with the ball nearly 50 yards to shoot, and that’s when he pulls up. That’s where the issues are.

Wow he sprinted a full 50yrd:confused:
Sorry but every manager could pick fault with how their players are handled when playing for country.
Just Brenda having a moan IMO.
Like I said earlier, other teams have lost big players, time to utilise your squad & use the players you spent big money on.

But then you'd have 10 or so different fitness regimes for one international team. As every other team will say they want their players to follow their specific fitness regime. Which is just silly. It's just the same tired old excuses by whinging managers looking for any excuse why their team may not win.

It's all just BS saying that if a player does not follow a specific fitness regime they will be injured. It's just part paranoid conspiracy, part usual whinging manager, and it's a shame that it's all swallowed up by the fans of the specific club.

I'm sure Hodgson was really pleased to lose his main CF before the game that actually mattered.

Perhaps if Liverpool hadn't played him for the full 90minutes in each of the 3 opening games of the season this wouldn't have happened, but who can say...
