Me also yesterday. Had no time for this forum as I do all the cooking and all the washing up, by hand no dishwasher. Mrs V has a complete day-off. My 4th year doing this.
Two polo shirts from one B-i-L and 12 TM RBZ Speed balls from the other - along with much booze and scoffs.

But today, I get to do sweet Francesca Annis and golf tomorrow morning.

done Christmas Day dinner for as long as I can remember, a lot of prep Xmas eve. And busy busy yesterday. Lord know how many time the sink was refilled with fresh water. Apart from cooking dinner and fetching daughter then an hour later fetching parents. Me feet were on fire last night.
Got a message off SIL Late last night. “ how was the Turkey”. In between chasing round I forgot to put the oven on at 10.00. Missis T reminded me at 10.25. SIL found out off Missis T and told her. Why? We had crimbo dinner at her house 2 years ago and she completely forgot to put the oven on for 3 hours. So we had Christmas tea instead. She took great delight in reminding me. Loved the fact the grandkids wept popping in and helping me.

Future SIL prepared a marvellous spread for us and his family…lovely to have them all at ours. Now it’s my job to prepare the Turkey and Ham pie with the leftovers (enough to feed a five thousand). I have a high bar to reach.

My ‘new’ music for Christmas 2025. New vinyl: Miles Davis - Kind of Blue; Franz Ferdinand - 1st (eponymous) album. Plus @£1 each from Sally Army Chesterfield: Stylistics - The Best of…; Artie Shaw and his Gramercy Five (eponymous).

All just so good in their own very (very) different ways.

ETA..and my mrs has just told her pal that I’m getting a new amplifier for my Christmas. So it’s a done deal. New streaming amp with integrated phono pre-amp, plus new speakers and a new cartridge (think she may have forgotten about the speakers and cartridge - must remind her vs )

BiL, his wife and my mum.

Wish we hadn’t bothered, Mrs M worked her arse off laying out a fantastic spread and playing host. Only for the Brothers wife to ruin it for everyone, moaning about presents, complaining about how it’s unfair she wasn’t winning at games and several other self important moments. I had to have a quiet word with the BiL about her behaviour being unacceptable toward my wife and her mum to the point he took her home early.

People wonder why I don’t tend to enjoy Christmas well today was an example of some of the reasons

Get to do it all again tomorrow but with better company in my Oldest daughter and my youngest 3 kiddies. The real day Mrs M has been looking forward to as she gets to be Mrs Claus and see my kids happy.

It’s genuinely awful isn’t it, can’t ever have just a pleasant or uneventful day with her around, it’s why I tend to avoid any large family gatherings as it always has to be about her. God knows why he married her or puts up with it.

But today will be better and Mrs M has already reset and got their presents lined up for them

She is also useless at games and really kicked off because she could not recognise the PG tip’s logo and everyone else could. She ended up storming out to have a fag, then we heard her driving off! It was a great evening.

A low key affair at my house.
Christmas is all about the kids and as I don't have any, I don't bother.
I'm just glad to make it through another year and I'm now getting my state pension every week

Sad answer to your question is because they way they were brought up to be more important than anyone else and others excessively tolerating the behaviour which only adds to their sense of self entitlement. If it had been anything but Christmas without my Mum & MiL present I’d have told her exactly what I thought of her and walked her out the house myself. However ever tactful and as it’s Christmas I had a quiet word with BiL telling him to take her home before offence is really caused.

The mood soon as they leave lifts and people can actually enjoy themselves. Poor BiL then had to listen to whatever her moans are on the way more! More fool him

The wife got me a snack subscription box from around the world, this month was Czech Republic. Just had the crisps which were garlic flavoured and now she won't come near me....so that's worked out well for her.

Christmas Pt3 and as a whole completed now. Had the Oldest daughter and her husband round along with my youngest 3. Presents done all the kids happy, picky bits for dinner and Mrs M in her element with the kids round and spending time with them. By far my favourite day of this period having my little family altogether.

Bonus was Mrs M and the oldest breaking the news to me and to the Son in law they’d sneakily booked a trip to Rome in May for us to all go together. Somewhere I’ve always wanted to go as has my daughter so now we’re all going to have a special few days together in Spring/early summer
