Christmas dinner is the most overrated meal imo.I’ve just suggested to Mrs H we go for a curry. Allegedly, I’m a heathen.
I use to cook it,but it’s not worth the hassle.
And to go out for traditional is extortionate.
So Indian it is
4 of us will probably come to £100-£120 rather than £400 for turkey & veg

It’ll be our first quiet family Christmas this year, presents at home, pub, dinner, games - just myself, wife & daughter, very excited.

Getting Christmas lunch done for us by my daughter and her fiancée. Up Chesterfield for Christmas Eve, then drive down south Christmas Day morning to arrive early afternoon in time for drinks and chat prior to sitting down at 3pm. Sorted.

Without being racist or anti religion, I suspect the price difference is due to the staff in the Indian restaurants not celebrating Christmas in the same way as those who would be serving in more 'traditional' (bad phrase but couldn't think of a better word!) eateries so are not having to pay staff double or triple time to serve the food.Christmas dinner is the most overrated meal imo.

It’s a lovely time for the daughter , she is very much in the spirit , we watch a Xmas film every night and have a Xmas book to read , she loved handing out her Xmas cards to all her friends at school and we have the Xmas Nativity play tomorrow where she is a donkey 
She does keep mentioning her grandad which makes her sad but every night she goes to bed with the teddy he got her , the day itself will be great with the whole family and kids everywhere - and that’s my job , keep the kids entertained whilst the wife cooks

Yeah I’m guessing that’s what it is.
They probably see it as a bonus having the restaurant booked up on what will be a normal day to them.

The usual Christmas at home with my Dad and brother then Boxing Day up to West Cumbria for a week with the wife’s family. IF the weather is kind I’m going to find time to walk up Skiddaw.

That sounds lovely. I love the Lakes in the Autumn/winter months as it's less busy.
We are going to Bowness this coming Sunday for 3 days. We did it last year, it was great. The place is empty so you can go where you like, walk in to any pub, cafe, restaurant without struggling to find a table. Car parking space, easy. Definitely better than the summer. It's a gamble with the weather but it's the lakes, it could rain at any time of the year

I lived just outside Ambleside in the late 70’s. The autumn term was the best time to be in the Lakes. Parents are reluctant to take their kids out of school in the first term of a new school year.
The first couple of weeks after Christmas weren’t great. People with new gear, Christmas presents, thinking they’re were going to scale Everest…
The weather never bothered me. Wear the right gear, do the right things, and find a decent pub.
