Christmas 2025

A week to go and I’m still not ‘there’
Having already had a great 1st Christmas 3 weeks ago when in uk I really feel its already done and dusted this year

I’m sure I’ll get all festive again by the time it comes round and we head out for lunch at restaurant with friends

Does being in a warm place make it harder to feel festive? How long have you been out there, are you used to it yet?

I've always wanted to be in the sun for Christmas as I could be less festive and get away with just enjoying where I am, every time I've suggested it Mrs M shoots me down in flames "Christmas has to be cold and at home or its not Christmas" that's what she tells me every time, tempted one year just to book it as a surprise and see what happens after all she won't turn down a free holiday ! I hope

We're acclimatised to the weather but a hot Christmas is still a novelty despite over 10 years here
Usually a long walk on the beach first thing in the morning with chilled bloody marys. then breakfast at home then this year its a restaurant right on the beach for lunch, they just do their usual year round menu so no xmas food but its a great place to spend a few hours

Weirdly I just asked the guys in the office about an hour ago, why isn't there a summer variant of Christmas decorations. The shops and public areas still have fir trees, European winter themed scenes all over the place
Surely the southern hemisphere has had plenty time to come up with more suitable versions like a decorated palm tree etc (I'll wear a Christmas tee shirt rather than a jumper but that's about it)

The weirdest Xmas day for me was going up to Troodos and having snow and then later in the day being on the beach for a Party 😂

Once decided to get away for Christmas. So, decided anywhere Christian was probably out. And many muslim countries also probably out due to alcohol restrictions. Settled on Vietnam. Have never seen so many reindeers and Santa Clauses in my life. And the Christmas lights in Ho Chi Minh city were out of this world...

Lovely evening yesterday singing in the town Community Choir Christmas Concert. An appreciative audience filled my church (the acoustics are great so many choirs choose us for their rehearsing and concerts). We are so not perfect but anyone can join and everyone enjoys singing.

And we learn that the core pieces for our 2026 Summer Concert are from Oklahoma. Now that'll be good as I love Oklahoma - oh what a beautiful morning - well not so beautiful this morning.

ETA. Next up - Sunday and my church Carols by Candlelight - a lovely event attended by many and many families who are not churchgoers (or only very occasional) - but many enjoy this event as part of their lead-up to Christmas Day. I'll be there to make a loud noise from the back row of the choir.
