Chipper purchase...

I think chippers go into the same group as hybrids.

People buy hybrids because they are easier to hit than a 3-4 iron. People buy chippers because its easier to chip with one than a 7 iron.

how many people do you see with chipper in their sig. people dont have a problem with saying "yeah i have such and such a hybrid" but when it comes to chippers its like evil twin that gets locked in the basement and no one talks about him. id say theres 10 hybids to 1 chipper when players struggle with their chipping as much as their long irons. in fact, this is crazy because you dont score hitting long irons. ITS ROUND THE GREENS where you score.

We could have a GM forum meet there (I have been known to frequent the above branch) :D

and me... and have to use bloody "Great" Anglia as well... not having a good start are they? :(

Back to the OP, I'd leave him be. If it works for him, so be it. You could have suggested he sign up to this forum for some advice on where to get the best one... :whoo: THAT thread would have brightened up a Monday afternoon.

Sorry but I disagree about the hybrid argument. More and more pros use them as they are more forgiving than a 3 iron and are more versatile. A chipper on the other hand is a specialist club for one function only and to be honest it shouldn't be that difficult to put a simple putting action on a 7 iron to play a simple chip and run

More pros use them ... not really an excuse for anything.
More forgiving ... so is a chipper
chipper is specialist, only one use ... clearly not used one
shouldnt be that difficult to use a 7 iron ... same thing for a 3 iron instead of hybrid.

Don't worry not for me!!!! Just come back from American Golf on my lunch break and there was a guy in there agonising over a decision to buy a hybrid. He was chatting to a member of staff who fair play to him was being polite whilst referencing the fact that he'd just use a 3 iron (in the vain hope the guy would listen to reason and change his mind). Anyway this guy is now off to conduct more research on hybrids before making a purchase.

After he parted company with the guy in AG I was so tempted to go over and recommend a long iron lesson but bottled it.

Would you have had a kind word in his ear?
simple search and replace, and it doesn't look that out of place either ;)

Hybrid - 4 simple uses

Tee shot on par 3
Approach shot into longish par 4
Recovery shot from light rough where 3/4 iron would get caught up in the grass
Chipping around the green

The first three are just golf shots like any other. My chipper will take on your hybrid at chipping around the green.

Oh the lovely Greater Anglia, what a load of bawls they've been since taking it over. What line are you on?

Monty, Dave and Rich when's the forum meet at AG happening? ;) I get the mainline service and jump off at Ipswich. Greater Anglia have had a bit of a shocker.

Right going back to the thread Twire I hear what you are saying but I have taken the other option: lessons. After two years working on my swing I'm going to spend this year working on my short game. If a chipper appears in my signature by October you'll know the lessons didn't work!

Forum meet at AG in London, sounds interesting :S haha. You are on the same line as me then. I jump off at Chelmsford.

I went to the London AG branch near Liverpool St. for the first time a couple of weeks ago as it's quite close to my London office in Gracechurch St., must say that the shop quite impressed me, but only because it's about 4 times the size of my local AG store in Cheltenham.

Is this the flagship store or are there others that are bigger?

Sorry for continuing with the thread hijack.

Hybrid people there is a significant skill difference between putting with a 7 iron and puring a 3 iron. Anyone says otherwise is lying or stirring ;)
I would say its much easier to pure a shot with a chipper than it is to hit the same shot with a 7 iron ;)
