Celtic wouldnt get any more money than they get now with direct entry though, they would get less than if they won a few qualifiers. Celtic are already getting the same prize money as other teams that make the last 16 so unless they get better and get to the even later stages they wont get anymore money.

The trouble Celtic have got is they do absolutely fantastic to get to the last 16 with what resources they have got but the only way they will get to later stages is if they had more money from domestic football.

Well, yes and no!

They get the same bonus money per win/draw and for reaching the last 16. However each team also gets a payment based on the "market pool" from which they come. i.e. teams from bigger countries get a bigger share of the pot.

Money is buying success therefor teams with limited amounts will have less chance so they should get as much help as is available.

I agree with that but thats a different argument imo. Hopefully once this financial fairplay thing comes in it will stop clubs just burning money they havent made. It will never be a level playing field mainly due to the domestic leagues imo but this will hopefully make a difference rather than teams becoming falsely better than they are due to a rich owner etc.

Therefor they cannot and should not be calling it the Champions league, it's a European league now. For making rich teams richer and poorer teams poorer.

Totally agree with the first bit however i think the daft owners and domestic league tv money is the main factor in the rich getting richer.

Market pool based on the value of the television contract in that country (again harking back to domestic league quality) and also where the team finished in their domestic league. So finishing top gets you more etc.

And if the domestic league had more revenue it could attract and look to grow its own better talent which in turn could generate more revenue.

Money is the outlying issue more than anything else.

That 12m is never going to be enough for Celtic to have a chance though is it really. When teams like Palace, Norwich, West brom etc next season will be getting nigh on 100m for just being in the premier league it shows where Celtic are losing out imo.

Just imagine the big boys with their owners throwing billions about as well and its just a different level financially.

Teams from poorer leagues will still be limited even if they have direct access so no matter how UEFA do it there will still be a gulf between teams with a chance of winning it and those with none.

Very basic short sided view.

If Celtic make 12 million and decide to invest it it a top quality player or two it'll benefit the whole of Scottish Football. Just say for instance they decide to pay £1 salary to Beckham (could be anyone) to come and have a swansong at Celtic Park. I as an Aberdeen fan would make the effort to go and see Beckham play as would others putting bums on seats and money in the bank.

As Val said earlier Celtic getting to the group stages is a huge success for Scottish football. Given our limited finance and lack of opportunity to dine at the top table we're doing ok.

True but that is more down to the domestic league rather than the champions league. All the big clubs coin it in from their domestic leagues which is where Celtic are at a disadvantage. Chucking Rangers in division 3 hasnt helped Celtic on the coeffiecient & revenue front either and add to the rest of the teams struggling to get near them and its a vicious circle.

In the example you state above that money is likely to be peanuts in the grand scheme of things isnt it?

Celtic getting out of the group stages too is also a great achievement with the resources they have got but they wont ever get near winning it until the Scottish league improves. They could have a guaranteed group stage slot every season and it wouldnt make much difference. 12million is peanuts in the champions league circle so they need money from elsewehere.

They were not 'chucked' into any league.
