Agreed, the reasoning was different but the purpose was the same.Celtic did exactly that when they became a plc, Pacific Shelf was there to safeguard the old Celtic Football and Athletic Club name.
That being said, Pacific Shelf and Sevco were created for totally different reasons.
Having been involved in several divestment, merger and acquisition programmes over the years few are the same (reason, method, outcome etc) but the purpose generally remained the same. To protect part or all of a brand or product from the business itself.
I wasn’t in the Rangers boardroom so can’t comment on the exact asset vehicle that was used but as dodgy as some of these deals seem to be (many bank acquisitions are… how shall we say, questionable!?) they all seem to be legal regardless of appearance.
