Since ave got back from me Jollies in Italy. Ave tried catching up on bits and bobs on here, and there is a lot ave read that goes straight over my head. I read an opinion and see it as an opinion. Someone else then points out summat else which I never even considered or thought of, that sees it as the exact polar opposite as I have read. They see another angle or reason behind a " story". Now in this day and age of fake news etc etc, I know that some things read or shown ie ( a picture of a demonstration of support from the air in London for Tommy Robinson was actually a photo of Liverpool FC on there champions league parade in 2006) so yeah I get that some people are sceptical of a story. but it just seems to me there seem to be a lot of "grassy knoll" views around at the moment that are going straight over my head.
Or it could well be to much red Wine last week.

My history teacher told me many years ago that virtually nothing is written "with total impartiality." It's nothing new, but it may have got worse!

Thats probably why I miss a fair bit of it.👍

We unfortunately seem to be in a period in society where it is difficult to separate out the informed comment/opinion on both sides of an argument from the fanatical blinkered myopic view of the extreme sides of each argument. And society seems to be polarising more and more to the opposite sides. I'll give the BBC as an example. There are many on here who think it is a liberal left pinko communist organ broadcasting euro loving propaganda. But there are also some of the more fanatical remainers who think it is a pro-Brexit organisation and is a lot to blame for us voting to leave. Surely it can't be both so who is right?

I think there has always been conspiracy based whack jobs around and also people at the extreme sides of an argument. But it's just that print media in this country, broadcast media in the US and increasingly social media, plus the behaviour of certain people in positions of power, are giving some legitimacy to them nowadays. And if you say it enough times then eventually some people will believe you.

I've had my eyes opened in recent years to agendas and you only read what "they" want you to read..... I'm at the point now (and have been for several months) that I will not take any information from the BBC for that very reason. It's brainwashing at its finest.

There's also a trend to ignore what is being said and react to it based on who's saying it. Very unfortunate and especially bad in the US politics.

The news media, be it written, printed, broadcast or online, should generally be taken with a pinch of salt, you are only reading/watcing what someone else wants you to read/watch to suit their particular agenda.

In it simplest terms how many fisherman have talked about the one that got away or embellished a story that makes tiddler caught a 12 pound monster, or the golfer who holed a 3 feet dead straight level put only for it to become a 30 foot down hill left to right slider against the grain. The point being the story changes to suit.

I was taught to question everything as part of a psychology course.

Sadly it is an attitude that has caused a lot of friction particularly with my bosses.

Or is that what they want you to think? :D

But please feel free to post links to overtly pro Brexit material on the BBC!

Think you slightly missed my point. I was pointing out that people at opposite ends of the spectrum have very different opinions on essentially the same thing. Here is one article on one side https://www.independent.co.uk/voice...rbyn-guido-fawkes-conservatives-a8291681.html and here's another on the other https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/5428081/bbc-news-coverage-biased-against-brexit/

I've never stated that I think the BBC is particularly pro or against but feel it is a relatively impartial organisation. But I am sure people particularly right of me or more fervently pro remain may disagree.
