can't hit a high launch 3 wood but can smash a hybrid

I swapped to a 17degree 3 wood and it goes like a rocket and certainly further than I could hit a 15degree one

I don't hit a 3w off the deck. There's no point. It's carnage.

My 17 degree 4 wood is fine. If I can't reach with that, I can't reach.

A 17° 3 wood has to be easier to hit than a 15° one, it just has to be.
I would be very surprised if the majority of golfers get a significant distance gap between a 3 wood and a 5 wood, mostly there's 3° between them - what's that? About 10 yards? If hit well…..
Don't forget we're talking about average golfers, not low single figure players who make 8 or 9 out 10 3 wood shots.
I suspect more players will hit a 17° wood further than a 15°...

Lot of sense in that, but as we all know, the correct shaft is the key to more consistancy,as well as loft etc..I have a burner superfast 2.0.re-ax stock regulalar shaft 15 degree, great club, more than paid for itself.

its a man thing.... got to go for it :D

maybe thats why my handicap wont come down lol
Not being rude ... But you have pretty much summed up why your where you are!
I used to practice hitting my 3 wood off the deck, simply to make sure I could hit it off a tee. Nowadays my 3 wood is for off the tee, my 5 wood is for long shots off fairways. But seriously look at it like this you could play you 3 wood HL ( or 4 wood) and 2 x 7 irons and cover over 500 yards with a degree of accuracy !

I tried a shorter 3 wood with some success but really for risk reward for me its not worth it normally. Have been trying it though and a shallower attack angle and slower swing help me.
