Can You Pay Your Annual Fees By Standing Order?

My club allows you to pay monthly, you can take the membership fee and divide by 12, or pay some up front and share the remainder out over 12 months, or if you have the cash pay it all up front. There is no additional fee charged for spreading the payments, no joining fee, and you pay for the year you are playing.

My Club allows fees to be paid by monthly standing order, but they have to be paid one year in advance. This means that anyone who wants to join the Club has to pay the joining fee + the annual subscription + the standing order for the following year. I'm not surprised that we're having difficulty attracting new members. Any comments?

We can pay by DD, One off, 2x6month or 6 monthly standing order payments.

I think my club offers a Fairway Credit type monthly payment plan, I choose to pay up front in September, then have a standing order to a savings account for 100 quid per month so next years subs are there when needed.

we previously used fairway credit, but this year we can pay by 12 monthly instalments with a £3 fee per month (total £36) making it cheaper, but we have to pay the bar levy and golf union fees in the first payment, think this is the way many clubs will go to keep or attract new members

Ours used to do that but when the membership for golf courses started dwindling they charged sharpish.
We have lots of options.
One year full fee on at the end of January
4 monthly cheques until April
10 month direct debit for the forthcoming year,
We also have a sliding scale membership for under 30 year olds.

We have the Direct Debit scheme at our place, 1st April = deposit of £125 then the balance of the £475 paid over 9 monthly instalments with no interest charges. Works out at about £15 a week for the 9 month which is not a lot when you think about it. The scheme seems to work as a good few members take advantage of it and I have been doing it for a few year now.

Direct debit costs £60 extra where I am. This is insane, and will be reduced from next year. Subs of £1400 plus preclude paying in one go for me. That's capital, not revenue!

My Club also use the Fairway Credit company, but I don't understand why. After all, if you are paying one year in advance, it can hardly be described as credit, can it?

Similar to OP at mine, joining fee can be paid over 5 yrs with no interest. 1st years fees to be paid in full (possibly 2 phased payments) but standing order starts straight away for the next season if that's what you want. It is a bit of a hit the 1st year but after that you are always a year ahead, if something cropped up financially at renewal time your already covered for the next year.

Should add there are no fees or interest charges.

My Club gets the money from Fairway Credit up front, but the member pays monthly in arrears. Surely yours in the same ?

Our club does DD(as does most clubs nowadays due to financial cicumstances all over the UK),however I have always paid up front as it suits me and Mrs.Santa ...who handles all the money in the house!!!
Actually prefer it that way,as its one payment only and once its paid then it is out of the way!!!
Her son pays by DD however

Our club does some similar things as already mentioned,
Joining fee can be paid up to 36 months, your choice how quickly you pay within the timeframe.
First years fee paid upfront when joining.
Options to pay dd payments into your account between April and January, again amounts at your discretion to either pay off your fees or reduce them for following season.
Recently started a winter m/ship for £250 which will get you a £200 subs discount if you join for the following season.

Paying monthly in arrears is credit, but paying in advance is not. I don't understand why our Club would need to receive money from Fairway Credit if they are paid in advance by the member.

So let me get this straight, if your fees were £1200 and joining fee was £600, if I joined I'd have to had over £1800 to cover joining fee and first year subs and then £100/month throughout the first year to cover 2nd year subs?

you could do this if you wished to pay monthly going forwards, and always be an amount in advance - just like a savings plan!

the issue isn't what they are doing but why anyone would wish to play in advance - but if you are planning to be a member for the next 20 years with a simple monthly outgoing I can see some logic in it. Whilst you can obviously do the same thing with a separate savings account or whatever, some people will prefer it done for them.
