Just back from 5 days of great golf and company playing around the Dumfries area!

Played average at best except yesterday when I scored my best ever round! Broke 90 and shot 86 gross, I was playing stableford too and managed to rack up 41 points :)

The best bit was instead of playing of my official 26 handicap I voluntary reduced it to 24 ( to see if I could play to a better level)! Anyway thought I would share as I tend to have little to shout about when I play golf.

Cheers

Well done matt just goes to show youve got it in you to play to a lower h/cap which ill keep in mind if we get to have a knock ;) ,what courses did you play stayed there few years ago and our society is thinking of going back there next yr for few days.

hamshanker: we played 5 courses all 5 have different type of challenges and you had to think about what clubs and shots to take ( not many open fairways where you can blast the driver) .

southerness - links course that I really liked and the 1st time I played on this type of course. luckily my driving was ok when I needed to otherwise I may have lost my weeks worth of balls in one day :)

Lochmaben - some tough par 3's and tricky blind 4's. One of the 3's was a 215 yard uphill which you may need a driver to get near. The course runs around a loch but water does not cone into play that much

Dumfries and county - tough course and I struggled on the front 9 as I found it very tight of the Tee. 1st hole you are banned from using your driver lol

Thornhill - up in the mountains stunning views and great course layout, however greens in poor very poor condition. Shame really as imagine it was a quality course years ago ( guess they may be struggling financially )

Moffat- short course but great fun with again great views! Some holes are crazy and you have to use club selection wisely! The last hole is a 260 par 4 downhill great fun driving to the green :)
