I recently had an incident where a driver clipped my car and when I got out I realised there were three women all wearing full Burkas who got out the other car. My problem was that I couldn't identify the driver as they were all wearing the same outfit and all I could see was eyes. I am not even sure they were women.

I wonder what would happen if I took to wearing a balaklava?
How can the Police identify a banned driver if they are wearing this garment?

This is not racist or a mindless rant but I am not aware of any religious demand for this item of clothing to be worn.

I totally agree.

Women are not required to wear the burkah according the the koran, that is fact, infact the veil was not devised by muslims but infact adopted from persian and byzantine traditions.

If I went into barclays in a crash helmet Im sure someone would have something to say against it whereas if someone in a burkah goes in, they are too scared to say anything for fear of being accused of racism.

I hate the burkah, I despise it, it is a symbol of domestic abuse if you ask me, I went to chessington recently and it was baking. There were muslim men dressed in shorts and vests and walking behind them were the wives dressed up in the full burkah and that. It is an absolute disgrace that the wives are controlled like this.

All relegions should be banned, all built out of mans arrogance.

Mans ingorance I think is the cause, Dawkins (a bit of a mentalist) reckons if you dumped infants on an island with no external inputs, within 2-3 generations (I think) religion would be rife.

I'd be willing to be they were more comfortable than most people there, why do you think desert dwellers wear long flowing robes? Because they're cooler. I wouldn't mind a full length sunscreen on some summers days, might stop me looking like a beetroot. Not sure I'd be able to swing the club properly though...

That's not surprising really, most religions started out as a method of explaining what Man didn't understand, ironically the main exceptions to that are probably Islam and Christianity (and even they built on a previous religion, which did start out in that way).

Imagine you're a nomadic tribesman, 6000BC and an alien race lands and you say:
"how did all this start?",
"Well, in the beginning there was nothing and out of nothing exploded the entire universe, creating 11-dimensional spacetime and forming all the laws of physics, gradually this expanded and cooled and the first quarks condensed out of...",
"Hang on guv'nor, what?",
"Err, ok, in the beginning was god and god said "Let there be light!" and there was light, and then he created the Earth and everything on it..."
"And how long did that take?",
"About 16 billion years.",
"Pardon?"
"Sorry, err 6 days do you?",
"Yeah great, what was this god called?"
"Ummm, God?"
"Triffic, now, I can't help noticing it hasn't rained since you got here, come over to this pyre for a minute..."

Brilliant.

If they turned up for their Driving Test wearing one, they would be taken to a side room where they would have to show their face to the Examiner.
If they refuse, they'll lose their fee and not take their test.

Sometimes Speed Cameras take piccys of the driver as well as the plate to help confirm who's driving - not much chance with them.

Interesting, if predictable, poll result. Also interesting that when asked earlier today on another thread to support a Scotsman's right to wear a kilt at a posh golf club the result was the exact opposite.

I don't like it or all that it stands for but I will always defend an individuals right to wear what they like providing it is lawful. I know it obscures the face and there are all the arguments about "what if they walk into a bank" or "the police can't see them" etc but there is little evidence at all to support a link with crime of any kind. Just out of the ordinary folk going about their business peacefully as far as I can see. Each to their own, once we start making laws like that we start on a road some countries have been down before.

Dawkins, a mentalist, how very dare you. I've read every word he's ever published and I can't see what that may be referring to :) :D
Based on what scientists understand about the origins of religion that statement is (pretty much) correct though. The reason being that there is a 'God part of the Brain', which has evolved as a fear mechanism since we became the only living thing to have a concept of the imminence of our own death.

This is exactley why things like this cannot be discused in a sensible manner, someone always plays the thas racist card.

.....but there is little evidence at all to support a link with crime of any kind.

Didn't one of the failed July bombers flee to pakistan wearing one?

I would ban them when driving as it obscures the peripheral vision.

Why do we have to accept other cultures when the countries they originate from do not allow us to take our culture to their land. I am not a racist but I AM a culturalist.. if you come here, live by our culture.
