I personally carry (i'm only 27 ;) ) but on the occasions i've had a buggy (mainly in south africa) I've found it doesn't help my game, IMO (when sharing a cart) -

A) you get 'dropped' off with a club, which when you take the wind etc into account you realise isn't right, but your bag is now 40 yards away at the partners ball

B) Poor shot choice as when carrying/ using a trolley, when walking to the ball you can be assessing your position/weather conditions, with a buggie you get a shot amount of time to access your options.

C) You get cold between shots!

I'm not anti buggie in any way, however for me - they don't work! Am i the odd one out, or do you share my feelings?

yeah i agree. you wont play your best golf sharing a buggy with someone. would be pretty sweet knocking around an empty course in one yourself! walking is the best way to enjoy golf!

Buggy for me this weekend, green to tee distance is obscene and will double the distance of the course yardage (not to mention the imapct on pace of play if buggy not used)

Why would walking between green and tee impact pace of play? Most people walk at a similar pace unless they're in a hurry so it shouldn't have any effect.
I hope everyone is using a buggy or you're going to get serious bottlenecks.......

And where the hell are you playing that has 6000 yards of walking between holes.......?:mmm:

I agree, not really a buggy fan, often you have to stay on cart paths which really slows things down. They tend to cut courses up here too. Walk if your able

1 Man/woman to 1 buggy makes sense for people who need it but sharing a buggy for two people is just pointless imo. If your having a leisure round on a quiet day and have time to leave the buggy at each shot then maybe it would be ok. Dont like the idea of two people zig zagging over the course in a competition especially if they are in front of me.

I dont like buggies because they are totally anti social. You are on the course for 4 hours as a 4 ball, and you dont get to chat to you opponents/playing partners as you would with a walk down the fairway

I love havinga buggy when I am back home in South Africa, mainly because my mate has his own which is pimped out to the max. His buggy has a fridge (full of beer) and GPS. Makes the game that much more enjoyable. The last 6 holes are usually played pretty badly though.....Lucky its a private estate with no police to breathalise you.

Slightly off topic... but as you're mentioning dropping off, how would 2 players walking goto their balls? Both seperate when they get near to their balls (if opposite sides of fairway)?

A big percentage of people I see using buggies are overweight.

If you are elderly or disabled fine, but otherwise using a buggy goes against the core values of a game of golf.
Cynical course designers build in long walks between tees so future customers will be forced to hire a buggy.

played dukes at woburn last week and wished i had taken a buggy, must have covered more than 10,000 yards knee was not happy using the clutch on the way home :(

lipped out the 3rd for hole in one finished 3 inches to the left of the pin :(

Currently using a buggy after a knee op. I can't wait to walk again whilst it has aspects of enjoyment not walking our 10th uphill all the way. it is anti social and i miss some of the banter that makes for a great day

You're right, it affects the duration of a round would be a more accurate desciption rather than pace of play & at a guess 90%+ will be in buggy's, although 6000 yards may be conservative for green to tee ;), will be playing at Tamarina Golf Club & I've only seen two people walk it during past visits

I think they are great when playing abroad, USA, Spain, Portugal etc on hot sticky courses.

Once you get some altitude or are playing in the UK, Ire etc where temperatures are manageable then I say walk!

They are fine on holiday in places like USA where you have silly distances between greens and tees but there is no place for them in this country.

Golf is a sport, to me sport means exercise. So walking it is..............

I always play my worst golf when in a buggy, so much prefer to walk it now. I also find that round times don't actually differ from when walking anyways!

I've very rarely used one, but when I have I've walked most of the way round anyway and let the other person drive it.

Thats what I do.....

Although if I want to practice a few holes I often get a buggy so i can get to the holes i want to play - when the course is quiet obviously!

I only use buggy if in am playing a course like PGA @ Gleneagles. The distance between green and tee is ridiculous. I really enjoy walking the course with my bag. Nothing more, Nothing less.
